During your annual leave is just tough titty, I guess. If you have not declared yourself sick before you start your leave them how can you expect to get it back?

You go on holiday abroad and get a food bug or broken ankle in the few days of a two-week holiday???

If you're sick on a/l then phone in and tell them, you are entitled to getting the time back as has been said.
