Hi I may have to take ill health retirement at the age of 61. I take my nra60 . What happens about my other pension pots and does rm still pay into them until retirement age .

I took IHR last October and because they have decided that I will not be capable of working for anyone let alone RM, they have started my NRA65 pension early. I was 62 when I left. It depends what Occ Health decide. If they decide you're not fit to do an RM role but can do other work then they'll probably defer your pension. I don't think they'll continue to pay into it. Someone may know better than me.

If you're deemed to be capable of working again, but not for RM, then you get your 34 weeks + PILON and you can take your NRA65 but with the usual 5% per year reduction if taken before NRA, otherwise it's deferred until you decide to take it.

If you're deemed not capable of working in any form, your NRA65 may be paid out without reduction, as with 97gaz.

RM will stop paying into your pension when you leave the business.

Has royail mail stopped ill health retirement. I am currently on the sick but feel i cannot do the job anymore due to the walks getting bigger and next year even bigger. I am 59 and worked for royail mail 22 years can they refuse you.

Yes, they can refuse you if you just feel you can't do the job anymore. They'll want to see evidence of some kind of disability or other medical reason why you can't do the job from a consultant and GP.

No they hav'nt stopped it but can certainly refuse it on the grounds that your walk is too big..

It's not just to the walks getting bigger. I had a knee replacement 4 year's ago due to a accident at work in 2006. It's affecting my ability to do my job. But I have heard they are trying to stop the benefit. But I know if the walks keep getting bigger I am getting older and struggling with my disability.

If you've got a condition like that, then it's worth asking the gaffer to refer you to OH. If it looks like the condition will not get any better and may require more sick time then they may go for it. Only OH can recommend IHR.

I think they are going to change IHR but haven't as of yet. It's incredible how many have been IHR in my office since the start of COVID. Nine out of seventy five people with three on long term sick and likely to get it.

Thanks for your reply same in our office since privatisation. And we have alot on long term sick . There are alot also waiting for VR. Personally i don't think that will happen now to many in our office want to go. I have only been off 7 weeks and my manager is referring me to oh assist. I have a friend who is currently fighting to get ill health and has brilliant reports from oh and GP they are going through the union know. The union has said he his fighting to get too from his office IHR. I just hope I am not to late. Thanks again. It must be costing the company alot off money.
