Dog attack

Post by NethergreenPostie »

I have only been employed by Royal Mail since 07/12/2020. On Tuesday morning the 13/04/2021 I had two Alsatian dogs attack me while attempting to deliver mail to the house. I have been told that I'm not going to get any sick pay even though the attack resulted in me having to be taken straight to hospital by a Royal Mail manager. Does anyone know if this is the case as due to the injury and my mental state I have been told I will be off work for a minimum of 5 weeks.

Do You have a union rep in Your office? If so tell them what’s been said ASAP.This also needs reporting to Police.

It was reported to the police that night and and investigation on going, but was worried about not getting any money for who knows how long. The union rep also knows about it but unfortunately at the time I wasn't in the CWU

One would hope that the Union would be keen to give its support, member or not. Health and Safety issues don’t switch on and off in the working environment according to whether one’s a Union member or not !

If the union gave its support to everyone who’s not in the union they would not be around for long,it’s amazing how many people don’t want to join the union till they get into trouble

Unless the union gives its support to people who aren't in the union then they won't be around for much longer.
If a trade unionist doesn't at least have the time to offer a sympathetic ear and a bit of friendly advice then they aren't much of a trade unionist.
Unless you actually show people what a trade union can achieve why would anyone bother joining?
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Well done to those of you who voted in the agreement (was it the way forward?) to kick new starters in the teeth for their 1st year.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Its shocking that Royal Mail pay millions on a chief executive’s salary but can not support injured frontline staff!

Firstly ,I would speak to Human Resources (surly an accident at work entitles full pay)
Secondly, contact Rowland Hill Fund.
Thirdly, contact a solicitor to claim of dog owner for loss of pay and injury.

The CWU will give you advice ,give them a call too.

Other issues are, was the dangerous dogs listed in the walk log ?
Royal Mail have a duty of care to its employees , dangerous hazards and dogs etc should be listed in the log

Hope everything works out for you.

There is nothing stopping you going down the legal route to claim any loss of pay and damages, best do some research on what no win no fee company is best to use good luck.

LTB 134/16 - Royal Mail - "Dog Attack Compensation Scheme" & Claim Form
If injured and off work sick as a result of the dog attack, benefits are available to members under the Royal Mail "Dog Attack Compensation Scheme". The scheme pays compensation amounting to the difference between full rate sick pay and an individual's average weekly earnings over the previous 13 weeks prior to the dog attack incident.
