will someone tell gordon brown its not about the money
not sure if anybody had a letter today ,quoted from gordon brown explaining that we should all get back to work,as royal mail doesnt have any more money..
it really pisses me off how royal mail have blindsided the public and the prime ministers opinion that we are striking purely because of 2.5% pay rise..
i couldnt give a toss about the pay rise for me it aint about that,,but royal mail seem to think that we are striking because we are greedy..and they have the pm convinced of that aswell..
talk about propagander..i think i spelt that wrong but you get the jist..

Was it from Royal Mail?
If it was I would write to Royal Mail and say you have taken his quote out of context and also ask them whether they have permission to quote him ie. whether they have copyright over his quotes.I would just do that to wind them up.
Also when Gordon Brown said we should accept the 2.5 per cent it was in the context of keeping inflation down not that Royal Mail has no money,so they get it wrong again-mention this as well in the letter.

Yesterday while visiting Bush in the States Brown quoted Winston Churchill who wasn't exactly a friend of the working classes and who also, wakey wakey Gordon, was a tory. He'll be quoting Thatcher next. It's time to pull out of the political fund and stop financing these tossers who have nothing in common with working people.
Down with the blackleg, all workers unite.

I know nothing of the history of the Labour movement & subsequent political party.....but how many of the early Labour parlimentarians were professionals ( solicitors, etc )? And whatever happened to the insult of "champagne socialist" ( to describe someone that apparently subscribes to socialist ideals, while doing very nicely for themselves, thank you very much )?Rowdy wrote:Yesterday while visiting Bush in the States Brown quoted Winston Churchill who wasn't exactly a friend of the working classes and who also, wakey wakey Gordon, was a tory. Kier Hardy was born into poverty and couldn't read until he was 17. He wrote for socialist newspapers and was a miners union rep. He refused to wear evening dress when he was elected as MP.smokerjim wrote:I know nothing of the history of the Labour movement & subsequent political party.....but how many of the early Labour parlimentarians were professionals ( solicitors, etc )? George Lansbury was the son of a railwayman (so am I!) who worked as a clerk. He was elected MP for Bow and fought for the working class all his life. Like Hardy, he was a Chistian Socialist.
Ben Tillet worke as a docker and led a strike at Tilbury. Another Christian Socialist.
Will Thorne worked as a rope spinner in Birmingham.
Tom Mann was a syndicalist who worked as an engineer. He was involved in the Liverpool General Strike in 1911 and went on to found the Australian Labour Party. Had a regiment in the Spanish Civil War named after him.
Plenty of ordinary working class people founded the Labour and Trade Union movement. Brown, Blair and that shower running it today have nothing in common with those people (or us for that matter).

Thanks for that IWW - and I should also point out that I do not think all people with money / position cannot be socialists.....I only have to think of Tony Benn to know there are those that follow their politics, no matter where they came from.IWW Fellow Worker wrote:Kier Hardy was born into poverty and couldn't read until he was 17. I can't say I'm a big fan of Tony Benn, but I remember him speaking against the bombing of Iraq in 1988. Blair stood up and said something along the lines of 'if it had been up to people like the Rt Hon member in 1940, we would have lost to the Nazis'. Blair showed what a pompous, ignorant scumbag he was that day. Tony Benn was in the RAF during the war, had a brother, a pilot, killed in action, another brother was also in the RAF and his father who had turned 60 flew as an air gunner.

Are you sure you don't know much about inflation, Spedley ? You are usually full of hot air
Yes, there are several measures of inflation. If you are a politician or a boss, you always quote the lower one when negotiating a worker's pay increase. If you're on the Bank Of England's Monetary Policy panel, you use the higher figure to justify another hike in interest rates to screw the working man still further
