Uncaring Managers

Post by The Third Best Postman. »

There seems to be a common trait on here that managers are all bad. I would like to redress the balance.
I used to live with a girl called Ann. On the 8th of January 2005 at 20 past 8 am she woke me up by getting out of bed. At 8.30 I took the bathroom door off it's hinges to find her dead on the floor.
My line manager and shift manager both took time to visit me (in their own time) If kind words where pennies I'd be in Bermuda by now
They offerd hard practical help.
One manager took the time and trouble to come and support me at the funeral
They are not all bad

Credit where credit's due , those two managers did well by you, mate. Unfortunately , they are the exception, not the
rule.

You're right , too few and far between , and until the opposite can be said , most people's experiences of RM management
will be a negative one.

That's a really sad story and I hope everything is OK for you mate. I've met a couple of DOMs who were not bad lads but in general they are not to be trusted. I remember one incident where I came across an accident involving one of the lads on his way to his delivery. A transit van had ran into the back of his van and he had a bit of whiplash but fortunately OK. After the police and ambulance turned up I phoned the office to tell the DOM what had happened and the bastard was more concerned about what sort of state the van was in than the postie. If he'd been standing next to me rather than on the phone I'd have dropped the prick.

Sorry to hear that 3rd best.
Of course there are good ones an all,but in fairness they are outweighed by the other lot.
One of our rest day cover blokes is a good bloke,he has a laugh with us but knows how the job works and doesn't take the piss with us.
One DOM i had gave me 8hrs fictitious docket once, when i got a parking ticket on me car doing overtime for him (years ago)
While it obviously doesn't compare with the original post, there are some human ones out there.
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

BUSINESS.

Post by mdtomuk »

I LEFT 'BUSINESS' TO BECOME A STRESSFREE (twit . . . . . . . . . . . ed) POSTIE IN 1997, ONE OF THE REASONS WAS THE OPPOSITE ATTITUDE TO THE VERY SAD EXPERIENCE DETAILED ABOVE. I NEEDED TO SUPPORT MY MOTHER WHO WAS BURYING MEMBERS OF OUR IMMEDIATE FAMILY ON REGULAR OCCAISIONS - COULD I GET TIME OFF FROM MY BANK (name them . . . . . . . ed) - OK, TWAS CHASE MANHATTAN IN BOURNEMOUTH. ANYWAY GET TIME OFF TO BURY MY FAMILY? LIKE F**k!
THIS ATTITUDE IS CREEPING IN. NO, GOOSE-STEPPING IN WITH INDECENT HASTE AT RM!!

SORRY TO HEAR OF YOUR LOSS 3RD BEST. IT'S A RARE THING IN THIS BUSINESS, COMPASIONATE MANAGERS. MINE'S A TOTAL PRICK. HIS OPS MANAGER TOO. THEY WOULDN'T HAVE BENT OVER BACKWARDS FOR YOU.
THIS IS HOW THEY WORK. A WOMAN AT MY D.O WAS TOLD BY THE OPS MANAGER WHILST OFF SICK, THAT SHE SHOULD COME BACK TO WORK COS SHE MIGHT GET A STAGE 2. HE KNEW FULLY SHE WAS ALREADY OVER THE STAGE2 LEVEL BY 4 OR 5 DAYS.
I KNOW ITS NOT ON A PAR WITH 3RD BESTS SITUATION, BUT THE MAJORITY WORK LKE THAT. BULLIES AND STITCH UP MERCHANTS
