No doubt they will be reading the propaganda from RM and the press will have their biased say.
We may be onto a loser there, they complain enough as it is.
Your thoughts on all this,i'm thinking it's gonna be hard to get them on our side.

There are a lot of people in the city that want RM privatized and they then make a lot of money. I do not trust the dynamic duo or their motives, so you can guess we will be in for a bad press whatever is said or done. But try we must and stick together. :Very Happy

I think it's going to be difficult to get the public with us because we don't have friends in the mass media. People will believe what they read in the papers. It's up to us to explain the real situation. On my delivery I've had people asking why they get their mail at 12.30 when it used to be 09.00. I just tell them it will soon be 2 o'clock if the management get their way. They ask why they get "so much c***" through their doors, so I tell them it's a way of making our money up and let them know that since 1980 the payment has only risen from 1 pence per item to 1.67. They're actually quite appalled by these things. When it's explained to them that Royal Mail is actively preventing them receiving their mail at an early time, they can see the job is run by people who couldn't care less for them and just as with transport, the NHS etc. they can see the whole idea of offering a service has gone and the pursuit of profit has become everything.

Perhaps the slogan for us should be

"Service not Profit"

which I think is what we all want. Yes modernise too better the service but not so Al and Adam can get bigger wage packets and us smaller.

This time round (compared to the last strike ballot) the Union have got the `Media aspect` handled in a much more Professional manner. I`m sure if we need to progress the `issue` to a Strike, then a well prepared Newspaper article would/could stress the loss of service to the Public, that both our R/Mail Management/& Government have allowed! to take place so far, can only worsen.

BRISTOL CHRIS IS RIGHT. THE UNION MUST HAVE A MEDIA RELATIONS EXPERT ON BOARD. GOOD NEWS FOR ALL OF US. CROZIER TURNED DOWN A PUBLIC DEBATE ON THE FUTURE OF THE POSTAL SERVICE COS HE WOULDN'T HAVE LIKED WHAT THE PUBLIC WOULD HAVE TO SAY. THE PUBLIC, AS I CAN GUAGE, ARE VERY SYMPATHETIC TOWARDS OUR POSITION. PEPOLE ON MY DUTY CAN'T BELIEVE RM SAYING WE'RE OVERPAID AND UNDERWORKED. NICE TO SEE LEIGHTON DIGGING HIMSELF INTO A HOLE ON BBC NEWS HARDTALK.
WHEN THE NEW PM DECIDES TO SACK THE 2 STOOGES, HE SHOULD HIRE ANNE ROBINSON TO DELIVER HER FAMOUS LINE. :wave :wave

This is what i have posted on a local discussion forum

Within 2 months Royal Mail will possibly be imposinglater start times on their delivery postmen and women. They will be moving from 5am starts to 6am and possibly as late as 6.30 am. RM say this will only happen "were this does not prevent the unit from sorting and prepping firms mail" Well in my expert opinion a later start at st neots would have a negative impact on the firms so i hopefully st neots will continue to get their mail at the same time rather than a hour to a hour and a half later. However we cant control what time peterborough send the mail to us.

How ever there are very firm proposals to scrap the afternoon collection from post boxes in villages in order to save money. Their would be one colection a day and thats when the postman/postwomen gets to the village with the post. If you wish to reply by post the same day as receiving your mail this will no longer be possible. You will have to travel to the nearest postbox with a PM collection costing you money in petrol costs!

The RMT have done very well for their members without ever having public support. In our dispute, public support would be nice, but
hardly what I'd call necessary.

Postalworkers need only worry about one thing , staying united , staying solid , staying defiant. Ooops , that's three things  Maths
was never my strong point !!! :d'oh!

Well i've just finished e-mailing every national newspaper, told them a bit and invited them to come and have a look at us.
See what we're saying, and basically see the truth.
But i'm not holding my breath.

Is there are reason why we cannot just get on the streets and tell people our side of it?

If we have say a series of one day strikes, we are limited at the office to a picket, I believe, of 6 people. But there's no reason why we couldn't go out to main shopping areas and the like and hand out a few leaflets, talk to a few people. Or is there? What is the position on this sort of activity and the Official Secrets Act that we have signed?

Good on yer, POSTMAN :Applause

Unfortunately though , I won't be holding my breath either mate. To most of the gutter press, any worker standing up for their rights,
fighting for a basic form of dignity in their place of work, is seen as some sort of bogeyman.

You see mate , we stand in the way of unrestricted capitalism , a capitalism allowed to run rampant if we do nothing , a capitalism
which would trample over every ordinary working man/woman in it's mad rush to enrich even further the already filthy rich. Leighton &
Crozier are a prime example of the sort of fatcat trash we have to face down , if we lose this battle, it will be, to use their own
words, a win win scenario for the likes of them , and I've no doubt whatsoever that they'd celebrate their victory with a slap-up meal
in Claridges whilst patting themselves on the back. And we'll pay dearly for it.

But enough doom and gloom , we're gonna win because we have no alternative , and unlike the gruesome twosome , we have nowhere to run. :cool
