Short Staffed
My office is so short staffed it’s impossible to believe.
Following 2 botched revisions we lost loads of deliveries, with the workload spread amongst the remaining duties. Not a single duty is doable.
Long serving staff are leaving in droves, but due to the ridiculous new contracts and the workload we can’t replace them. Of the 4 people on the new contracts, 3 are looking for new jobs.
Potential new recruits don’t even turn up for an interview, those that do either turn down the job, or leave after a day. DPR drivers in the afternoon seem to stick around, we now have 9 of them, with 1 joining last week.
Area manager came down one day last week and spent the whole day hiding in the office with the door closed.
Every single day we are faced with mountains of tracked packets and mail building up in the double slotted frames. Gone are the days when we could at least clear one delivery between the two of us, now if we can do 2 loops of letters from 1 frame it’s a good day. To top it all, the walker is usually moved onto another delivery on alternative days.
According to the COM, we are roughly 33% understaffed.
Isn’t privatisation great

Re: Short Staffed
In order to turn things around the company would need to restore pay and conditions to what they were little more than half a decade ago. Instead they're intent on reducing service levels to match what few staff they can retain, as opposed to the stated rationale of matching it to however many letters get posted.
Tracked is dangerously oversubscribed in networking terms and choking every other product. Even T48 was being rolled over last Christmas. The future's so bright I have to wear Oppenheimer's shades.

It's f***ing hilarious ain't it?
I am absolutely convinced RM is being used as a test to see how far the UK can push a large business' staff into oblivion whilst still making a profit for the owners.
We are almost at an American way of working practices lol.

It’s the same across the country. The only people that stay are the ones who are able to check out mentally and just laugh at the shambles.

I doubt they loose 50% to those and we pay NI for healthcare anyway?LouBarlow wrote: ↑02 Sep 2025, 05:40How much of that do they lose to paying for healthcare, having next to no paid annual leave, no sick pay, no maternity/paternity leave? We don’t have it too bad here.

Re: Short Staffed
They pay taxes too though. And the average annual salary here is £37,400 here anyway so approximately $50,000. Given how much we save in annual leave sick leave etc there isn’t much in it especially when you consider health insurance can cost $1000s a month.TopperGas wrote: ↑02 Sep 2025, 11:06I doubt they loose 50% to those and we pay NI for healthcare anyway?LouBarlow wrote: ↑02 Sep 2025, 05:40How much of that do they lose to paying for healthcare, having next to no paid annual leave, no sick pay, no maternity/paternity leave? Yeah it’s not great either though those little carts they have are pretty cool. We had a couple of interviews today so maybe they will start taking in more staff now we are making a profit again. Hopefully. Maybe not.

Re: Short Staffed
I have to admit I relish, love & laugh
seeing my office in total chaos, we have quite a few off sick, two of the main sorters on annual leave, other regular sorters on their day off, these posties offered to come in, but where refused, most walks went out with a single postie taking just tracked parcels and 1st class mail, management did not seem bothered one bit that the frames where full of mail?
The job as well and truly gone

Haha maybe if you work a crappy job at amazon delivering packages or something. Otherwise there is sick pay, maternity and paternity leave and healthcare costs is usually heavily subsidised by the employer and actual deductions from wages come to about what most pay in NI contributions.LouBarlow wrote: ↑02 Sep 2025, 05:40How much of that do they lose to paying for healthcare, having next to no paid annual leave, no sick pay, no maternity/paternity leave? Granted paid vacation is typically less at 2-3 weeks but thats becoming comparable with RM at this point.

Re: Short Staffed
The only attitude theyve reasonably left posities is - start time, finish time, go home and forget about it. If you're wanting to care about the job or customers youll end up driving yourself crazy. Its sad.
