REBUILDING ROYAL MAIL GROUP PARTS ONE AND TWO – MEMBERS BALLOT RESULT

Please find attached the scrutineers’ report for the Rebuilding Royal Mail Group Parts One and Two ballots.

Yes 79.5%

No 20.5%

This is a very strong yes vote of around 4 to 1. It is an emphatic endorsement of the union’s position and the agreements we have reached.

The turnout was 43.5%. This is comparable with most pay ballots of this nature.

The backpay due as a result of this agreement will be paid to weekly paid employees on 26th September. It will be paid to monthly paid employees on 30th September. This will include backpay on overtime, scheduled attendance and all elements of pay.

We will be issuing wider communications tomorrow on the EP Group/CWU agreement. We are also in the process of arranging an online briefing for all CWU local representatives and a live session for members.

8 months after the CWU announced a ground breaking deal with EP Group, a part of the agreement has been voted in.

what was the point it was always going to be accepted? Nobody would have been willing to strike in the hope of an extra %. It would have cost us more than we would gain in any case as the CWU agree that the company has no spare cash. Just need to get the "agreement" implimented to everyones satisfaction now. Number of eligible voters: 97,121

From various internet sources: Royal Mail employs around 130,000 - 150,000 staff (hard to say which groups are included).

So if those numbers are roughly true...you could estimate that about 65% to 75% of staff are in the union? Really?

And if that's true they all pay in for the privilege of voting and then do not actually cast their vote?

Not sure what to believe. Something does not seem to add up. Smacks of "Once a Catholic, always a Catholic".

Yeah, I have no idea why people are whining about the result, especially with the amount of people that were moaning about the last strikes we had and how much money they lost because of it.

Some posties would prefer to strike for 1% extra? The maths don't make any sense.

The point is over 50% in the union didn't bother voting on pay!!
