Hi, here's the Mount Pleasant Workers' Fight bulletin dated 25 June. Your comments are always welcome!
And this is a link to our monthly newspaper, for anyone interested: click here
WE NEED TO BOOT THIS CBE OUT...
The government has awarded CWU General
Secretary Dave Ward a CBE ("Commander of the
British Empire"!!) medal for his "services".... to them?
Quite on point, in fact: he's overseen the privatisation
of RM and signed off thousands of job cuts and
attacks on our Ts&Cs. And we know he's
collaborating over the next round of attacks on pay
and conditions, which will be spelt out in the coming
CWU/EP Group "agreement"...
...AND HIS "AGREEMENT"
While they're talking about cutting us and everything
around us, we haven't heard a single concrete thing
about our 2025 pay rise... It's meant to be
incorporated into this "agreement", so that every
penny increase is tied to yet one more cut! We can
say in advance that we don't agree to a single word in
it.
DOWN WITH THIS 2nd TIER!
Casuals are now brought in on a regular basis in
Processing. This, while at the same time union
leaders tell us that casualisation of postal services is
"out of the question"! Are we not to believe our own
eyes then? The fact is that management can't do
without extra workers and everybody knows it. So
the next thing is to ensure they get permanent
contracts. And only us permanent workers can do
that.
WE REFUSE!
There are not enough trained-up workers on the PSM
night shift. So managers try to slot casuals into these
jobs, but they're not trained to do them. Which
means that the PSM work cannot run properly.
Managers think that the rest of us will just grow two
extra arms to cover, but we won't!
TRACK-WHENEVER
Last week on Late shift processing, managers
thought it was okay to bring in track-24s which arrived
late in the evening... And since it isn't possible to run
the load on the Parcel Sorting Monster, which is
bloated with indigestion, we were asked to sort them
manually. But it was just too much! As for their
track-24s, they might as well rebrand them as "trackthem-
but-lucky-if-you-get-them"! A bit of a mouthful,
but truthful.
CUT THE CLOCK!
In those "huddles" on Nights and Lates, we were told
how much RM is losing in profits, if we clock out even
a second before our finish time! How petty can they
get? As for the clock, it belongs in a museum. Why
should we allow ourselves to be treated as if we were
back at school?
TOO SILLY FOR WORDS...
And by the way, how can we all leave "on the dot",
when we can't all scan our cards at the same time?
So inevitably, some of us will leave "after the dot".
Are managers going to pay us for the extra seconds?
RIOT GOING ON?
There's a Resign going on in Distribution, this month
and next. We hear that managers want to increase
the number of runs on the night shift, from four, to five
or six! Would that mean they'd expect us to work
longer shifts than 8 hours? 10 hours? No way!
U-TURNING ON THEIR HEADS?
After DUMs half "U-turn" over their USO-related cuts
in duties, are they going to abandon their failing USO
reform and so-called Optimised Delivery Model?
Unlikely. We know they prefer to stick to stupid ideas
rather than accept mistakes. It's going to be up to us
to push them to do a somersault.
2+2=5
Over in EC, we're dealing with more and more heavy
parcels from Parcelforce/GLS! They can be 25kg or
more, so much so, that DUMs were forced to find us
delivery dollies/two-wheeler sack trucks. But they still
got that wrong, since these weighed around 7kg just
by themselves!
FOOD FOR WORK!
There is a slow run-down of the canteen on Nights
happening before our eyes, and it has to stop! We
don't always have the time to cook our own food
during the day, when we need to rest, in addition to
all the personal tasks that can only be done by day.
So yes, we rely on the canteen - management has to
put money into it, that's all there is to it!
IMPRACTICAL ROBIN
We got that notice telling us that the "People's app" is
being replaced with the "Robin" app. But why should
we re-learn how to get around this new bloody app,
when we've only just got used to the previous one?
As far as we're concerned, there are two options
here: either we opt-out of the app altogether and get
our paper payslips, or they keep the previous app!

Thanks for that link Jimallen . Notice you dont post much on here { i perhaps understand why !! } but that article on The precarious state of the British working class is very interesting
"why should it just be the bankers, politicians and the idle rich who get all the best things ? we demand a standard of living for our members that enables them to share in the fine wines and times that the likes of Cameron and his Eton buddies take for granted " - the late great Bob Crow RIP.

You may well have been, but the nature of a forum is that anyone can add their opinions.
Re Jimallen's attachments, I find them more interesting than reading about the Parcel Sorting Monster, the Elephant or how mates can't get to the canteen on nights.
Always good to read those weird, wild and outright whacky political contributions.

Tman, I appreciate your urge to chime in, but I wasn’t speaking to you. If you’ve got something constructive to add to what Jimallen posted, go for it—but trying to steer the conversation with sarcasm isn’t adding much.
