USO Reform Posties Pocket Guide.

Post by menditsa »

Saw this left on frames when I got back tonight at 19.45.
The way I read it Ahmed,Bob and Evie will be covering 4 duties. They have worded it "Routes"
Will Evie on Combined duty have her own van ?
Will Ahmed and Bob have their own van ?
Or are they going out in one van.

Talk about making a simple job confusing.

We are a trial office and they handed that out on the first day. It looks like 3 people doing the work of 4. Our office came up with a different set up and it seems offfices will be given the opportunity to implement a system that works best for them. Thats according to those guiding us.

It all seems a bit crazy.

Eh, what so they just winged it on the day it was supposed to go live ? I thought the whole process was supposed to be planned well in advance of implementing it, attendance options voted on, duty structures, repick, IPS fittings changed to having a separate one for 1c mail etc.

It's actually pretty straightforward.

Four walks, A B C D, covered daily by 3 people.

Day one, 2 people in a van share clear everything on walks A and B. The third person on their own does 1st class and packets on walks C and D.

Day 2 they switch, and walks C and D are completely cleared, 1st class and packets only on A and B

And so on.

So currently 4 posties plus a packet driver struggle to clear.

How are 3 going to do it ?

It really is that simple yet no matter how many times I’ve tried explaining to some in the office they still can’t grasp it. Some actually think that they’re going to stay on their own walk on their own and deliver everything on Monday and then just Tracked/1st Class Tuesday then everything Wednesday and so on.

As we all know it ain’t gonna work……the s**t will hit the fan the minute 1 or even 2 from the team of 3 goes sick, there isn’t enough A/L cover in the office or the person doing Tracked/1st Class across 2 duties gets a bulk posting of 1st Class letters.

Longer days mon-fri so more time to clear.

That's the theory anyway!

Have been told that we won't be treating all DSA as 2C, it'll be treated as it is now. Also it sounds very much like the 5 day limit for the mech still exists and the DTS will continue to release 2C as it does now.

I think RM have forgot about the large number of what go through the system as packets but are actually technically large letters.

All seems fine until until you bring offices which have a lot of HCT walks

In theory it all should work, but without a proper revision it will be doomed to fail.
For every 50 tracked items some walks in ours get, others easily get 100. Adding 2 walks together and doing packets and 1C only will be around 250 items for some staff at the higher end and 120 items at the lower end.
Fair and balanced workload, eh.......

Revisions don't form part of the USO reforms?
