pdas-crap software

Post by stars2025 »

Had a tracked parcel other day at customers door scanned it, up pops another one, checked back of van wasnt another parcel for this customer very strange, so whats this other tracked number thats popped up i asked myself?, turns out i did have that other tracked number that poppped up on pda in back of van but it was for another address on another street i was still to go to wtf??? so basically two different addresses on my pda popping on the pda at same time by scanning one parcel, put no answer then went drove to do the other parcel that popped up on the next street i was due to go to and scanned the parcel and delivered it, but how mucked up are these pdas, means it was shown no answer at a different street on my run at first then when i got to the right street person was in ,so delivered it now shown correct address, anyone else had another tracked pop up on their screen for another part of their walk that they havent been to yet?? major issues with pda software

Had something similar, ever parcel in the road had attempted delivery at number 2 if no answer! Asked the customers who knew nothing about it and also asked the people at number 2 who were none the wiser

This has happened on 2 walks now

I had this once too. And residents of the house in question were out at work all day every day during the week.

Keep getting the location reminder thing popping up saying you are not at the location even though im standing outside the front door.

The peoples app is just as bad, every weekend it seems to be down for maintenance

The address issue is down to where the address is marked on RM's records, it's not poor software but poor inputting info.

I've noticed the new TomTom mapping app gets confused if you decide to go to an address down a different road it wants you to go and instead of re-routing itself like Google keeps insisting you do a u turn and follow it's original route, even if you drive a few miles and are virtually outside the property!

I had a message pop up once, I had scanned a tracked, message said if no answer deliver to an address 5 doors back down the road and leave in porch. So, no answer and did as directed by the pda. Turns out the original customer knew nothing about it, person at the address I delivered it to denied receiving the package. Original customer put in a complaint, manager asked me about it, explained all about it, manager investigated and …..nothing

Another issue is when you scan a tracked package and you get a message pop up regarding a different customer in the same multiple occupancy building. Package for flat 5 to be left in porch when package is actually for flat 8.

I miss the old days when the hardest part of the job was delivering 1000 letters in 2.5 hours and getting back to the office by 09.45

I'm getting this on a regular basis too, different units in a small trading estate that happen to have the same number although one is differentiated by an alphabetical prefix. It perhaps doesn't help that their stock in trade is almost identical.

To be fair if you read the messages on the people app it’s due to PSP maintenance and only certain tiles

Happens on new builds a lot, they lump all the addresses onto one house number

I wonder if the software is cheap and ultimately not fit for purpose?

There's nothing wrong with the software. It's down to the data that a DO has entered into Route Planner. A number of things will be based on the data in Route Planner, one example being the sort plans for the machines.

Dunno if there was a software update this past weekend.
But the PDA today was extremely slow.
The Outdoor part of the app must have crashed about 20 times today.
Scan something as delivered turn screen off.
Turn screen back on for next parcel and its back to the main menu where its got to load the outdoor app from scratch again.
Feels like more bloatware/spyware has been added to it.
Sometimes even just trying to press buttons was like the thing was in slow motion.

Sounds like the same issue that was the demise of the last PDAs, too many apps running and not enough ram to accommodate them all at the same time.
