Re: RMCtv: Parcel sortation
Pie in the Sky bullshit thought up by turds who spent too much wasted time at university studying F all when they would have been better getting out into the real world and doing a proper job. These waste of space muppets are the scourge of our society just sitting in an office pumping crap into a computer for it to turn out a crock of s**t.

Re: RMCtv: Parcel sortation
Why are you talking about MC's when this has nothing to do with them, it's simply a new way of working at DO's. Although why spend £1m's with parcel hubs etc if most of the sorting is still carried out manually at the DO's, even with this new process it seems parcels will still have to be sorted manually twice and then checked again by the person doing the walk.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑05 Oct 2024, 19:37They won't be sorted into walks at the MCs. Not every MC has got a packet sorting machine and it won't be practical to have 1 york per walk. Think how many lorry runs would be needed, you'd all be starting a couple of hours later if it were to happen. The current tech on the market to sort packets to walks is very slowTopperGas wrote: ↑05 Oct 2024, 19:23Surely they will follow the same process we presently follow, when the yorks arrive at the DO's the parcels/packets will all be sorted into individual walks, when they are then passed to the walks instead of being put on top of the frame as there are now, they'll be put into the individual pouches. I' assume when the postie due to deliver the walk postie arrives then quickly sort each pouch into the order they are going to deliver them, rather than spend time searching through the pouches when out on the walk, we all know there's nothing worse to getting to a customers doorstep with one item and when we scan it the PDA suggests two or more are due to be delivered that day. One thing this will stop is posties passing multiple packets or packets with parcels to the DPR driver to deliver.postslippete wrote: ↑05 Oct 2024, 07:25Unless the parcels are going to arrive into delivery offices already pre-sorted into Yorks with the various walks (like they do with the buddy trays) its pointless trying to do it this way because it will be far too time consuming for the walk-sorters. Also, many regular customers often order more than one item at a time so if the sorters are just scanning them and banging them into the bags at random, the postie actually doing that round will still need to empty those bags and put them in some sort of order, especially if they are not marked. And obviously they will need to check through the bags anyway to make sure they are not going to the same address twice if they have any larger parcels.
The pouches are always in short supply and most posties tend to keep them locked in their vans so they don't get nicked. I've been asking for months for additional bags and have had to make do with the few that I've got.

Re: RMCtv: Parcel sortation
You're talking about the parcels arriving into the DOs pre-sorted into walks. That if it were to happen would be done in the MC. It would no way be possible at a superhub, to be able to sort all packets down to walk level. Just think how many walks that there are across the whole of RM. If sorted into sleeved yorks then it'd need at least a couple of artics to transport just the packets alone to the MC.TopperGas wrote: ↑05 Oct 2024, 23:09Why are you talking about MC's when this has nothing to do with them, it's simply a new way of working at DO's. The MC for some DOs would need at least a dozen runs to the DO just for packets alone. You'd be starting much, much later as you'd have the time needed for the lorry to go between the MC and the DO multiple times. A few MCs don't yet have packet sorting machines so will be sorting all packets manually to DO level only. You have a primary sort with the busiest DOs and a secondary sort with the least busiest DOs

Those at the top are still spaffing money up the wall on pointless amendments to operations, none of which increase the volume of parcels which they actually need to happen to justify the millions spaffed up the wall on massive SupaDoopa Hubs. So much is being shelled out, and yet the service provided is being jammed down the toilet. None of it makes any sense.
Everything else has been a disaster and obvious failure just like this bag thing.
There’s simply no better way of prepping the mail than we do now , what would make it more efficient from frames to where packets are sorted is more space but they’re going the opposite way to that too.
They should focus on ways to help us get delivered first time ( not neighbours because that’s not efficient either ) because that’s the thing that slows me down no end.
Place is absolutely mental these days.
It’s so bad I’m not even able to do one full delivery with all the parcels now. We’ve got dpr’s but our deliveries have been made so large we get about 120 tracked a day.

Most accurate comment in the thread this.scotchy1962 wrote: ↑04 Oct 2024, 19:57Before you all end up in need of psychiatric help, stop a minute, unless you are a fairly recent employee of RM you will remember how many times these bright ideas have turned up over the years. You will also know how many of these bright ideas have been implemented....... i am struggling to think of any.
They keep trying to reinvent the wheel and failing miserably, the cost over the years must be incredible. At some stage they will realise that in the end it's us guys on the frontline who know best and keep this company afloat, mind you by the time they do realise it could be a new century.
Remember when they said we’d prep each bag including d2d’s at the back of the van or that 3 wheeled electric bike thing ?
This won’t happen and neither will 2.0

Walk sorting them into sacks before arrival at the DO would save time but not sure how viable that is. No one wants an 8 hour delivery span apart from the organ grinders.

The DPR Routes are now often getting over 200 parcels a day before taking on what the posties throw out. Not so long ago it was more like 120 impossible to get it all done.

Re: RMCtv: Parcel sortation
I have to agree totally, but over the years the only thing brought in on delivery that made any difference/sense was sequenced mail, after that the remaking the wheel has continued in the faint hope something will work.Barnacle wrote: ↑05 Oct 2024, 18:03You know how after 14 very long years of ‘efficiency savings’, and repeated failed changes to the service, the NHS has tipped over breaking point and is now in cardiac arrest? Maybe if they stop all this the £1 million loss a day thing would stop happening.

Re: RMCtv: Parcel sortation
Bench merging was trialled years ago when they tried to merge wave 2 with wave 1. However, our start times are now later and the mail will probably come in one wave. Added to this RM also want us to deliver 2c letters every other day so there will likely be less buddy trays to sort through as they will be held back by mail centres and walk-sequenced the next day.
The only reason why bench merging won't work is because the current duties are purposely unachievable and posties will end up leaving loops of mail and without any sequenced frame, it will be chaos like the last time.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

If that is the case then it won't speed up the indoor process of sorting and organising parcels and also uses up more floor space.
The only thing that makes any sense to me is RM having spent billions of pounds on parcel super-hubs that parcels would arrive pre-sorted. If it doesn't then local solutions are not really going to save any indoor time in delivery offices - just make a load of people who work in processing redundant.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Physically impossible to all arrive in one wave, you'd never get it onto a single lorry, unless your DO can handle a full size artic (a double stacker artic of you're a larger DO)postslippete wrote: ↑06 Oct 2024, 08:36However, our start times are now later and the mail will probably come in one wave.

It is a larger DO but I don't see what the issue is with transport as they could just send it on two lorries? It's not impossible for mail to arrive in one wave as we get it on Monday. During the week the 2nd wave is barely half a tray (sometimes just a few letters lol) and arrives just 30 minutes after the 1st wave.

They’ve clearly hit a wall when it comes to greater efficiency, once the mail and packets arrive at the DOs. Everything they have done since COVID has caused mail to pile up and sit undelivered. They’ve broken the military operation that cleared offices.postslippete wrote: ↑06 Oct 2024, 09:17SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑06 Oct 2024, 09:02Physically impossible to all arrive in one wave, you'd never get it onto a single lorry, unless your DO can handle a full size artic (a double stacker artic of you're a larger DO)postslippete wrote: ↑06 Oct 2024, 08:36However, our start times are now later and the mail will probably come in one wave.

Time for a little humility and draw a halt to the chaos and stop paying people for stupid ideas.

They will just blame the useless, slow, overpaid, lazy postie for their failures and move on.

Re: RMCtv: Parcel sortation
What should happen and would be unpopular and unfair to parcel drivers is that they start later than the rest of staff and then take all parcels and mail for the delivery points they are visiting instead of two different posties visiting at different hours of the day or on occasions at the same time
Wouldn't be popular but would be more efficient
