Re: Delivery 2.0
Anyone reading that document can only deduce what Matrix is saying will become true.
Ignore the parts about cwu involvement, "ergonomists" and health and safety.
That's just corporate speak and box ticking.
We all know it's codswallop.
Do your time and go home.
Or leave.
It really is going to be that simple a choice.

Re: Delivery 2.0
Here is a radical idea - instead of crowbarring in ridiculous new methods, why don’t those at the top, visit those offices that manage to run efficiently and within their budget, learn from what is being done right, and then apply those methods at a national level?
There are offices out there that are well run. The problem with RM is it is run like a franchise, with each office running independently, even from neighbouring DOs. Get everyone working in the same way.

Post from MatrixPostie:
-Double slots are far from efficient - having to make sure each letter is on the correct side of the slot for every single slot - then getting out on your round and realising now and again letters have been put on the wrong side, therefore you have to go back to the previous house because letters are not in order.
-No winged frames and frames right next to each other means people will talk more. Unless managers are going to stand behind us constantly with a whip telling us not to talk - I strongly suspect people will slow down as they chat more.
If things do become more like we are in the army - then more people will leave, to the point where RM will be understaffed and struggling to recruit, which means more inefficiencies.
I would say most staff are 'efficient', as most staff cut corners which is what Royal Mail management want, but will never state. RM should realise that for the most part they have a workforce that probably do on average 20 minutes more work than they should due to not taking breaks, coming in early, not booking overtime, and cutting corners.
I don't understand the 'making staff more efficient' comment. If Royal Mail think this boosts staff efficiency - I can't see how they think this.Delivery 2.0 is about cost cutting and boosting productivity by making staff more efficient with the aforementioned tactics. The Union should not be on board with these revisions. It is signing a suicide note to themselves and posties in general.
Sala101 is in an office that's trialled this and says exactly what I'd have expected someone to say who has worked with this new system.Sala101 wrote: ↑28 Jun 2024, 23:02I'm in an office that has had 2.0 for a while and its a nightmare, clearly developed by people that have never done a round or even been in a DO. We were really funcional before the changes and are now tripping over each other when sorting, bumping into each other when throwing off and having a mare with double slots. There really hasn't been a single positive to come from it and its really inefficant. Its the "trial" that we are now stuck with. Good luck to all of you who are getting it!!

I agree if you have thick skin and are able to tell your management no its the easiest its ever been mainly because we didn't really cut off,now with sisu and RMs own rules not giving a s**t about letters most people just bring the mail back.guardianangel wrote: ↑29 Jun 2024, 05:51im at the age now where i do as little as possible for as much as possible, the wealthy will always try to exploit the poor im just winning my own little battle ,and nothing gives me more pleasure than watching the steam come out of the lino's ear when he see's my failure to comply with his bullying, this job has become easier than 30 years ago.

Re: Delivery 2.0
I have to agree with both of these statements. I can count on one hand how many weeks our frames (paired) that have been clear and still have 5 fingers to count with, this year. For the last 3 months, we have been delivering part of one duty from the pair, due to local management's lack of management skills, he often looks vacant, like the lights are on, but no one is home, then walks away. With no rest day cover, and my work partner being taken off his duty, once or twice a week, to cover another duty that has been failed for a few days. I cover tracked and specials, while he tries to deliver the other duty within our time. The place is a real sh*teshow. With our new dom/com giving us a motivational speech each week, not really helping a great deal.richietns wrote: ↑29 Jun 2024, 08:04I agree if you have thick skin and are able to tell your management no its the easiest its ever been mainly because we didn't really cut off,now with sisu and RMs own rules not giving a s**t about letters most people just bring the mail back.guardianangel wrote: ↑29 Jun 2024, 05:51im at the age now where i do as little as possible for as much as possible, the wealthy will always try to exploit the poor im just winning my own little battle ,and nothing gives me more pleasure than watching the steam come out of the lino's ear when he see's my failure to comply with his bullying, this job has become easier than 30 years ago.

Re: Delivery 2.0
So what happens to the 'duty holder' at the end of the snake on a light day when their duty has been eliminated by the expansion of all the ones to their left? Is it only Walk 1 that ever knows they'll definitely be doing Acacia Avenue every day? In which case, are duties allocated by seniority from left to right?
They are constantly pissing around the margins as there's little that can be improved about having a person physically transport items on foot for hours on end, short of adding rocket boots to the uniform. Their proposal to cut delivery days betrays that labour efficiency has hit its ceiling. In desperation they're paying some clueless people a lot of money to come up with harebrain ideas that they can throw at the wall. Remember, those at the top think you're speaking another language when you say 'double slots'. I fervently believe the elimination of the higher pay grades has led to braindeath.

Re: Delivery 2.0
Speaking as someone with ADHD and ASD, the thought of having people talking and flapping about in my peripheral vision all morning is absolute s**t.
I already struggle with the constant shout-talkers, and thats with my frame being a barrier to it. Having it all alongside will make my stress levels go up a lot, as my brain cannot tune out movement and sound distractions very easily.
Hopefully this s**t idea won't be put into our office though as its a small office.

Re: Delivery 2.0
The decision making from higher management and local management baffles us all.
In our office they could just move the frames closer together to create a lot of extra space, there's no need to physically connect them and have double slots.
The main 2 ways they could make delivery WAY more efficient are....
1. Deliver less days a week, maybe 5 instead of 6 - which they are pushing for.
2. Sequence ALL mail. No idea if this can be done, or if it's even being looked into, or if it's too expensive because we'd need new machines? or if the door2doors are the problem, or one of the problems.
If all our mail was sequenced and we just had to take it out of a box in loops and wrap an elastic band around it, then that would save massive amounts of time in prep + no frames would be needed = much smaller office units needed = sell property and move to smaller/cheaper units.
Surely there is a way to make that work. You would think that in this day and age you would be able to sequence everything. If the cost is too high to get the machines needed, or the machines in existence can't do this - then you'd probably have to standardise mail to a more defined size. The main issue here would be with magazines as you can't standardise them to a smaller size, so maybe you'd have to say to magazine businesses that magazines are only delivered on Fridays.

The personal space aspect is not a minimal consideration so I completely relate to your concerns. It’s strange that they would even consider such a set-up after COVID.ChrisBlack wrote: ↑30 Jun 2024, 09:10Speaking as someone with ADHD and ASD, the thought of having people talking and flapping about in my peripheral vision all morning is absolute s**t.

I hope it falls apart before it takes hold.

Re: double slots. I understand why RM have been bringing them in, and I shudder at the thought of triple slots (although I’m leaving soon so won’t be around to see it).
BUT….given they are so keen for efficiency, can’t they just make single slots a bit smaller, maybe a third smaller, thereby saving space but not slowing us down? Yep it would be a pain when you have a big catalogue but overall we’d be much more efficient if every slot was for a single address. And it’s damn annoying when idiots keep taking just one D2D (or one set of 6 election leaflets at present) from a double slot and don’t write down which one they delivered to.

It would be more efficient for management to make money but because you would be dropping a day with the same amount of mail it wouldn't be for staff and it would cull staff.norris9 wrote: ↑30 Jun 2024, 09:16The decision making from higher management and local management baffles us all.

There are machines out there that can sequence flats and letters together. There's a version of the CSS that can also do so. Don't know if it's a modded version or a new versionnorris9 wrote: ↑30 Jun 2024, 09:16If all our mail was sequenced and we just had to take it out of a box in loops and wrap an elastic band around it, then that would save massive amounts of time in prep + no frames would be needed = much smaller office units needed = sell property and move to smaller/cheaper units.
