Would there not be scope to give others a rotation on a rural to reduce fatigue? As others have noted before, doesn't seem fair that only some staff within an office carry the load to achieve ODM. Are the rural duties getting the extra Saturdays off like the rest of office?
Rurals in our office are far from easy.

I average more steps during the day when covering a rural and always come home absolutely knackered.
More steps on a rural. How exactly? Stepping on the brake and accelerator pedals don't count :left:

I bet that some delivery points can be a right PITA to locate. Some of the road and driveway entrances must be hidden and easily missed when driving along.

After a revision at the office I work at oct 24 I opted for one nine day fortnights which suits me now on days off the duty has never been completed I have completed the duty 5 times in 8 months our office is a shambles complete failure we are a hub office they took 12 out employed 16 after noon drivers without been disrespectful the majority couldn’t care less on Wednesday 12 went sick on purpose the office has never been clear complaints through the roof the new plan is to put 5 duties back in we have been told to stop throwing to many large parcels out
Give the afternoon staff a break we cannot have anymore leaving by the way the rural obviously take their own if any come in to be deliver on Sunday they just scan them inaccessible our managers couldn’t care less I can honestly say it is depressing to witness the shambolic way Royal Mail is heading down the pan rant over

It does not work mail failed daily, carry on as normal make sure your tracked are done, moral all time low.
Whatever they are reporting this office with 100 deliveries does not work, it's like a trial is carry on as normal.

Sounds awful. Glad it doesn’t work this way at ours. We clear everything thrown our way on Sundays, every Sunday, and we take great pride in the fact our performance is best in our region. This may be down to the fact that, unlike neighbouring offices, we all have our own DPR routes that we do each and every Sunday, meaning our people doing the routes on Sundays have the benefit of knowing the geography and the harder-to-find DPs. That’s not to say it hasn’t taken some time for us new entrants to learn the patch properly. Our rural Sunday routes are admittedly getting much busier/heavier, often with delivery spans of touching 6 hours. These are done by full-time staff (8 hours).

Saturdays are usually hectic, not just with Saturday work (everyone else’s long weekend, meaning lots of duties uncovered!) but also getting set up and ready for Sunday. I invariably go over quite a bit on a Saturday afternoon, which instead of claiming OT for I just recoup as TOIL on a Sunday. By being flexible, I get flexibility back — win/win!
