Update.
Got my start date with the council (on the bins) for Tuesday 4th March so I handed my notice in yesterday after 11 years at RM.

Am I doing the right thing? I do hope so.
I currently earn between £25-27k although my P60s show I earned about £21k in 2022 and 2023 due to being on a 30hr contract, now 35.
The new pay for the council is £19200/£20200 yearly or £334 a week. A drop in pay yes but I have to look at it that it's Tuesday to Friday and I get December, January and February off so that pay is spread over 12 months. My mate who works on there said it's not unknown to have 12pm finishes as it's task and finish.

I'm looking at this as a foot in the door as ideally no one likes a pay drop although with better budgeting I'll be fine. My friend who did work for the council told me a lot of jobs come up internally such as doing HGV on the bins which is still 4 days but over 12 months and that is £31,000, I don't have that license but with 3 months off I could pay and get it or the 12 month binman is £27500, yet again 4 day weeks.
The bins are smelly, not everyone's cuppa, monthly pay will be strange but I think with these changes at RM I think I'll massively regret it if I pull the plug and stay at RM.
I've had a lot of positives on here to "get out" so I'm sure when I leave Saturday then it will be a good thing. 🫣

Such a shame that things come to this. I came to RM with the intention of staying there til I retire and it's a shame on them that good posties are jumping ship. There are a least two guys in their early 50s asking me where the link are to the job I've got, both with over 20 years seniority as they know what lies ahead

I completely agree. There is time yet but my manager has recently been promoted from trainee manager who was a complete lapdog (and it showed) and in all fairness a nice guy to now a different attitude that is aiming to get up that ladder quickly as he now has the taste so he has changed in how he is with us.
I'm not holding any hope of a handshake but we will see.
