Instead of this nuts way, why dont they trial different models all over the country. Then find out whats the best model etc and go with that. You dont just say the trials arent working but we are forcing them in. ?

Why should the CWU being doing OFCOM's job for them? The CWU did try and bring RM's failings to the PC's attention but nobody in Government etc seemed interested, subsequently OFCOM even went as far as suggesting there was no evidence of Tracked being given priority over mail, when we all know they are being given priority.

In an ideal world Ofcom would be doing its job but if you rely on Ofcom or the government to do the heavy lifting without overwhelming evidence then you are already losing. It's not about doing Ofcom's job for them - it's about forcing Ofcom to do its job by putting irrefutable evidence in their face. The CWU already tried to raise concerns with Parliament and got shrugged off. But what evidence did they actually bring to the table to prove it other than formal objections??

Locally, we have seen a dozen new starters, which looks like progress until you realise that they are all on worse pay and inferior terms. It is just a broken model propped up by cheaper labour and unsustainable overtime. That's why the CWU shouldn't just accept RM's version of reform but instead should be collecting real evidence of how these pilots are failing in practice with concrete data from the shop floor. Things like missed deliveries, failed frame clearances and overtime dependency; and they should use that to expose how badly these pilot schemes are failing.

But the problem is they are not interested! All we are hearing is that it is going ahead regardless of the sh*t hitting the fan. And it also raises a fair question - if the CWU won't push for their own original plan of a 5 day USO for letters and parcels on weekends - then what exactly are they defending anymore?
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

We are a trial office. At first rurals were left alone, apart from their routes being changed up a bit. Saturday they wud do parcels and 1st class along with a bit of a lapsed duty.

Town staff are getting slaughtered daily. Two duties of parcels along with 1st class then next all mail and parcels on ur own duty. On Saturday its always parcels and 1st class so ur always having double if not triple mail every other day.

Now though rurals are being told to do half of their duty in its entirety along with parcels and 1st class for the other half. The following day do the same but swap it around.

Overtime is through the roof , if u want it. There asking people to work days off and even holidays. How its saving money is anyones guess but if u like the OT its happy days at the moment.
Are you on the 4 into 3 model i.e a van share doing all of 2 duties and a singleton duty doing packets and 1st class on another 2 and alternating each day ?

We've been told it's now 6 in to 3 and a half. Van shares stay the same but singleton duty now expected to cover 3 duties packets and 1st class

Unless you have oddly short duties or low packet number then jow can one person deliver 3 duties tracked every day? In my DO that could be well over 200 items on a busy day!

That would be classed as moving the goalposts pre/post agreement. Are you at a pilot office?

It would be impossible

Shows you the folly of not having a revision before bringing in ODM. Some single duties in ours have 40-50 tracked daily. Others have 120.

Worse than that……we’ve got some singleton duties getting between 12 & 30 Tracked & other singletons getting between 80 & 110!!!! How can you have such disparity?
If the above is true & a driver is covering 3 duties you could have one getting say 60 & another getting 300. Absolute madness…..how can one driver do that many let alone 1st class mail, collections etc etc.
On another note what is going to happen if 1 of the 2 or 3 duties the driver is covering gets a bulk posting of 1st class letters?

Issues like this (huge variance in tracked numbers) have been raised at ours but management seem clueless. Hoe can it be 'optimised' if some have to deliver 3,4 5 times the parcels of others. That's even with taking geography into account.

It would be about 300 packets plus first class, box collections etc.....

No chance it will work but that's what their planner is planning

When they came to explain it to us they were talking about 3 into 4. As i said rurals stay pretty much the same.
The towns in the most are shared duties so one person will take the parcels and 1st class for both sides, the other either is moved to a duty that needs covered or at times helps with parcels. Then the next day both take it all out.

So the system in our place has been adapted to suit the office really.

Would there not be scope to give others a rotation on a rural to reduce fatigue? As others have noted before, doesn't seem fair that only some staff within an office carry the load to achieve ODM. Are the rural duties getting the extra Saturdays off like the rest of office?

Rurals are in for a nasty shock, they will be used to mop up the excess at the detriment to their own duty.

We trialed the new method on one duty due to staff shortage and it was not workable. Packets had to get left for someone to do on ot.

Rurals in our office are far from easy.

I average more steps during the day when covering a rural and always come home absolutely knackered.
