Unfortunately there's no real info about any duty patterns at the moment, what days/hours we work now could all change

We're all in the same boat, I'm not too bothered with what I do while I'm at work but I don't want to change my attendance pattern.

It looks to be quite a reset going on with delivery/attendance patterns using the 4 into 3 plan. I don't imagine anything will be known until the pilots take place

I'm in line to be leaving Royal Mail in about 4-5 weeks to work on the bins for the council on a 4 day week (Tuesday to Friday).
I really never wanted to leave RM but lack of time off in this job working most Saturdays and having a rolling day off it still feels like I'm always at work with no proper rest.
Do I still take the plunge and go or stick around hoping we will get more time off or feel like we get more time off?
Is anyone on here actually in a trialling office that can give feedback perhaps? Time is ticking for me to make the final choice

My advice: Buy more holiday & spread your annual leave out evenly.

Anyway...USO change is coming and it sounds like a 9 day fortnight will be the plan. So 1 extra day off every 2 weeks, but longer days.

Imagine the hours for a 40 hour contract...

Could be doing a 10 hour day on a 4 day week..... F that!

If the time is spread across the alternating 5 day week / 4 day week, the 40 hour contract workers will be doing an 8 hour 52 minute day every day....

Enjoy!..... and the CWU talk about fatigue....yet this is what they want!

4 days of waking up 10 hours of work then falling to sleep the minute you get home because you would have walked 15 miles. + likely be going home in rush hour traffic.

Nah, not for me it wouldn’t. My unpaid time is mine to spend (or not spend) as I see fit. I tend to spend it on hometime.

The distance walked should remain similar unless your duty as all long drive ways, it will be carry more mail which will be the issue if the call rate increases to 75%+, I wonder why the original suggestion of walks all being 20% shorter was replaced by postie's working longer days doing the same length duties?

Some of our rounds are trialling it starting next week (only the ones where the duty holders have agreed to give it a go, I don’t blame them they each get every other Saturday off)

We still haven’t recovered from our last “trial” our place is funked up and we’ve got a repick going on at the same time

So can someone tell me is it actually legal for them/us to do this? Has it been approved? Is this another dodgy as funk manoeuvre where our management don’t give a monkeys about the actual law regarding the USO?

Has it got something to do with our rounds failing every day anyway so it won’t actually make a difference?

I just figured it must be legal or our union would be intervening wouldn’t they?

Did your office have a vote on whose doing the trials or were volunteers sought?

Sorry for the late reply (I’m on annual leave and not thinking about the s**t show that is our office)

The DOM/COM went round asking people who he thought might be agreeable to take part in the trial

A lot of people said no because apparently you don’t get a rolling day off and the managers just pick your day off the week before (like they do now for us reserves)

Most people got their own rounds so that they could know their days off well in advance and could plan for it so they weren’t too pleased by that although I guess they can work out which Saturdays they’re getting off maybe?!?

I really don’t know how the whole thing works and I’m not in this week I’m just pissed off because we’re in the middle of a repick and finally after 6 years I’m getting my own duty and I fell lucky and my duty partner is a top bloke

but knowing my luck that’ll all be out the window cest la vie

Thank you for replying. The modelling only shows 4 duties covered by 3 people. When you interrogate the modelling it appears that one employee has nothing to do on the Saturday. Most duty sets don't work that way so it's a mess.

Regarding the notification of rest days. The CWU should be having resource meetings and agreeing two weeks worth of duties. There is no excuse for people not knowing their days off well in advance. What you describe is what is currently happening to new starters. Some are finding out when they are off 24 hours before the day off. It's no wonder retention is such a problem.
