I think this is what people all over the forum are pointing out, the managers aren't managing, they are forcing people into working longer to meet unachievable targets, not allowing us to put delivery not attempted, implying that it's a bad option for you to not work overtime to meet the delivery targets. Some of the younger people might not speak up becuase we all need the jobs and the money at the moment and for many of us any money coming in is better than none. We are stuck between a rock and a hard place unless the union start listening to us properly.
When our office appeared to have this "overtime ban" it never applied to many of those who are still on part-time contracts claiming additional indoor hours as if they are full-time nor has it prevented staff from working their days off. What managers are trying to do is crack down on delivery pressure outdoors instead. They were told that staff were not working through "peak" anymore and so there shouldn't really be any need for staff to be working past their time.
Whilst volumes have obviously declined since Xmas, the fact that our outdoor spans were previously unachievable before peak have largely been ignored and once again the pressure has been put back on posties. If it's already happening now and some posties are making the unachievable look achievable by either coming in early or rushing round outdoors with a bag on their back then the Union will have a real fight on its hands trying to ensure a fair and manageable workload for all once the new delivery methods come in.

I'm on DPR, if my parcels are all in the same town then depending on how many I have it could get done in my shift time, but if I have 1 in each town and they are all 6-7 miles apart on single track rural roads or towns with 20mph limits it's not the amount of parcels that causes the unachievable delivery aim....it's the drive time. Yes I could run on a letter delivery an mug everyone else off but on a driving route you can only do the speed limit and wait with the traffic, and sometimes park the next street over to get to a house.

Nowadays I just do what I need to do to get through the day with minimum STRESS!
Generally this means cutting off if there's too much to complete. The Manager hates it and always starts spouting Traffic Figures at me but I try and ignore him! Idiot!!
