There were people in my office who did make thousands in D2D payments every year. As D2Ds weren't classed as normal workload, but as an extra, we had peeps who would volunteer to deliver the D2Ds of people who had no appetite for doing them. They would deliver them after work, or even at weekend. They then signed a docket to claim the payments generated by those extra rounds. Some people did 2 or 3 extra rounds every week.
So for every "D2D baron" making thousands out of the D2D payment per item were posties making nothing.
So the "average postie" wasn't making thousands.

How much is the delivery supplement?
How much do we all ( those on legacy contracts) make now?
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

It's important to remember they had to be prepped in your own time.

I don't think that I claimed anywhere in my post that the "average postie" was making thousands from D2Ds per year. I was just pointing out that it was possible, as another poster stated, for a few individuals, should they so wish, to do so in offices where rounds weren't 500 drops, tops. I'm not proposing a counter argument to any of your other points, just making a statement of fact.

They'll be very little pay rise across the private sector next year. You've been shafted by the Party of the worker ( apparently) . Best hope is to strike for 6 months , have a few bbqs with the comrades , defer the mortgage and hopefully regain the amount lost in a tiny pay rise with strings and a £200 lump sum found behind the settee and an extra half dozen Christmas stamps.

It's also important to remember we had adequate staff levels to sort the amount of IPS required (nightshift in DOs) an adequate number of walks to deal with the volume of deliveries and adequate tools to do our jobs. None of the above apply now unfortunately

We're talking about pre eBay, so not many packets, a LOT more mail, no PDA's, no CC's, no post boxes to empty.
Life was easier, but heavier for the first half hour of your delivery.
Then anither 2 and half hours max as your first delivery started at 6.50 and ended at 9.30.
It's a different job now.

Yes 0.67p per item when the duties were about 500 calls tops.
In any city DOs the call rate on a lot of walks has been closer to 800 plus since at least the late 90s. Some pairings have 3K now

Quite a lot of you are missing the point. Yes, those on the the new contracts knew what they were signing up for by accepting their contracts. What they didn’t know was they’d be paid £1 an hour less than the people they’re working alongside, and they receive no supplements, have to work Sundays etc. on top of that they they get treated like crap by everyone. That’s why there’s a problem retaining new starters.

Job and Finish came in with Single Delivery, no? I thought boxes were emptied by walks on their way back to the office after completing the first delivery.
The machine stops.
