It will also be much easier for people to knowingly leave mail in the frame on days its meant to go out, as surely this new system would make it impossible for managers to keep on top of everything.

This is exactly what will happen. Will staff then be conducted for wilful delay even though managers have been regularly telling staff to prioritise parcels over letters ever since Covid? Also, how will managers know if staff are delivering these letters if they are not scanned on the system? :hmmmm
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Royal Mail and even the letters part of the business, is not the dead duck the owners seem to want everyone to believe.

Could well be wrong, but I suspect under this proposed regime they would move to a model where permanent indoor staff would be responsible for prepping and bundling all duties so that, in theory at least, there is no “gaming” of the new system (e.g. work being deliberately left behind). In this way the outdoor delivery span could be significantly increased.

Almost 😁
And why would they fib? What possible reason? Wonder if it has anything to do with strengthening their case for getting rid of the USO?

Lets hope they have 7000 to 9000 redundancies because i need to go, even then i reckon it will be well over subscribed.
I've seen it mentioned before on posts that about 10k leave 'naturally' each year anyway - on that basis don't think there'll be many voluntary/forced
redundancies unless DK takes over.
Yep most new starters only last a couple of months now the new terms are shocking .

Just charge people a £10 monthly fee to be delivered mail 5 days a week.... if they don't pay the fee then they get mail 3 days a week instead at no charge...

How many people will sign up to the 5 day service....I don't think many. It will mainly be the firms / schools / etc + people working from home who receive work related mail.

This will allow people to have the option of the 5 day service but at a cost, which could also potentially be extra income for Royal Mail.
Imagine just trying to sort out which addresses received all mail Monday to Friday & others just Ic M to F and 2c M,W, F (week 1) & T & T (week 2).

I don't think it would be an issue. My thinking is that the mail would still be collected and distributed to offices as it is currently...

So we'd sort everything like we do now, just have markers on each frame for the properties that need to be delivered to 5 days a week. My assumption would be most people would not take up the 5 day letter service at £10 a month. It might be the case that you just have 1 person delivering 5+ duties worth on those days, maybe only having to deliver to around 30-40 houses per duty, if that.

Maybe the most annoying thing about this is if customers are switching in and out of the 5 day service a lot...as someone's got to keep on top of that and mark up our frames...

but I guess it would be a similar situation to redirections and we get by fine with that.

I know you believe RM is a dead duck. I’m not wasting my time arguing with someone who swallows every negative angle the company owners spew.

I believe letters are a ‘dead duck’ not Royal Mail. I simply asked what you were basing your opinion on. You must have a reason for believing it.

I feel that comes close to double-dipping by charging both sender and recipient. It has the appearance of rentierism, especially since I forsee it being impossible to bypass by collecting your own stuff at the nonexistent CSP.
The machine stops.

Wonder if there is an example of this operating somewhere in the world.
