20 parcels per hour or 20 delivery points per hour?
Yes, but when I'm on LATs the average is 15. Really depends the size of area you are covering.
LATs are a different beast where you usually cover far more distance between each drop.
Tbh, the rate of delivery is not an exact science. Depends on traffic, location of the delivery point (flats etc), weather / road conditions.

The OP asked the expected number not the exact number, the business must work on an approximate number when setting up new DPR's.

Guardianangel, I have extensive Amazon experience, both DSP (vans) and Flex (predominantly cars). I last did a DSP route in early September, prior to joining RM on a permanent basis, so speak with some recent experience too.

Amazon currently have an 18-month wait list of drivers signed up and eager to start on Flex, so not the disastrous scenario you paint. Yes, some regions have a shorter wait list than this. Amazon’s model is oversupply and overresource. The DSPs are require to flex and upscale - they might only cover 20 routes on a normal daily basis but yet Amazon require them to have an extra 10 drivers on standby each day to cope with the unexpected. With five or six DSPs in each “delivery station”, you’re talking maybe 80-100 drivers actually in each day but with 60 drivers and vans ready on standby.

If you’re lucky enough not to be put on an imposed standby, you have great prospects! You get to deliver maybe 300 parcels, 180 unique delivery points, for the princely sum of £109 (their van) or £139 (your van - or usually hired from them). Pay your tax, NI, fuel, van and insurance, it’s a pittance. If you’re unlucky to be on standby - no money paid for that day. Oh, but they still want paying for the van etc even if no work!

Want a day or week off? No problem. Obviously all leave is unpaid. Just don’t expect to get back on the “regulars” list for at least a fortnight thereafter — maybe just two days’ work each week.

Despite these work conditions, there is a queue across the country to “join”. Royal Mail is luxury in comparison, trust me.

Was that a tongue in cheek statement or really that those things cost next to nothing? :confused

I thought it was clear enough — I meant that once you have paid those expensive things you are left with a pittance.

An Amazon driver once told me they had to do 40 per hour, granted maybe more then one parcel per household, still a lot

Yeah, 40parcels an hour is about right. Bear in mind though that this isn’t 40 drops an hour - prob 25 drops an hour, with some of those 25 having multiple items. Amazon routes are created by an algorithm that plans them on a maximum nine-hour driving time.

By chance an Amazon driver was delivering packets on my round today, virtually every item was doorstepped, he did almost as quick as I could deliver just the letters, after one quick ring/knock he was off to the next drop.

The same thing happened at my house on Saturday about 7.30 in the evening. Except they weren't for me.

Some Amazon drivers don’t even bother knocking, sometimes I only know a delivery has arrived when Alexa tells me. I go outside and it’s behind the bin!

I read about a guy that was going to sue Amazon because they left a package on the step and the resident who didn't know it was there, tripped over it!! :chuckle :chuckle
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

I don't try neighbours at all anymore. Been abused, threatened, intimidated too many times. And is it really fair to potentially wake someone up who works nights, to take Mrs Goggins the shopping addicts grotty knock off used Crocks from fleabay, whe she orders tracked items every day knowing she's going to be out and doesn't bother to make any arrangement to leave her items, feel ashamed when that happens.

Amazon drivers are penalized for taking parcels back. Too many returns, they'll show up to work one morning and be told their services are no longer required. No warning and no job security; joys of being a self employed driver

Most likely they also take the blame if door stepped parcels go missing, that's probably why they seem to change on such a regular basis. Although aren't RM going down the being penalised for bringing parcels back given that one of the PDA stats is a 1st time delivery %.

All these arguments between "Amazon delivery job is better than Royal Mail" and vise versa is completely meaningless, when both PLCs are both shafting the delivery employees, one way or another. RM Delivery is finished :Applause
