With Ward at the 'elm we have a chance.
The draft agreement I have red wood mean a fairly decent deal.
It won't be poplar with everyone but we shouldn't pine for the old days.
We have to protect the universal wild service obligation.

A draft agreement by the CWU may well be a decent deal, but what's the likelihood of RM accepting it.

RM aren't going to back down on changes so far. They'll still want owner drivers for parcels, new entrants on lesser pay. All road blocks on any agreement by the CWU.

Owner drivers for parcels: how’s that working out for them? How’s it working at Parcelforce?

Are complaints up? Are they having to recruit more often because people leave faster? I’d like to know how the owner driver model works when comparing our competitors to us.

Also, when you work the same walk, you see the parcel delivery drivers come and go. They never look happy.

RM don't care about quality of service any more. All they are preoccupied about is cost.

Admittedly the business has been run very badly, but it's at a point where it is loss making. It can't continue to exist like that indefinitely. So basically all these changes owner drivers, bigger walks, worse T&C's, are all about saving money.

What's the betting once the changes are in place RM will go back to making £100m's of annual profits?

Yeah no doubt. They'll trim away all the excess costs, then the firm's will come back because RM are offering competitive pricing and they'll hail it a success.

When in reality RM will just be another parcel courier like the rest out there.

I don't particularly have any objection to Royal Mail making a profit ...... What really boils my piss is knowing how that profit will be distributed! :hmmmm

Those at the Top will get Mega Bonuses, even the Incompetent Idiots that we have as COMs will be getting undeserved Bonuses. :no no

Meanwhile those of us that are getting stressed out with these Un-Agreed Revisions, and actually having to do all the extra work, will have to make do with whatever payrise the CWU can screw out of Simon Thompson and his Cronies. :arrrghhh

Remember that when the offer's finally put on the table, and Remember how much it's cost us so far! :cuppa

Erm..not quite :no no

The other couriers don't:

Offer a USO
Deliver letters, flats & D2D
Offer a before 9am or 1pm priority service
Offer a redirection service
Offer a robust & generally fit for purpose complaints service

I'm sure there is so much more to list?

One of the main reasons to fight this is that Royal Mail won't last 5 minutes as "just another parcel courier". The other players are way too far ahead.

The whole plan is flawed, the "right sizing" too large a scale and the management structure far too heavy, cumbersome and lacking in the necessary skill sets to adapt. Getting the costs down to a level where we could offer competitive pricing without letters would take 10 years of hemorrhaging cash we don't have.

It would genuinely be easier to start a parcel courier from scratch than adapt the Royal Mail network to a parcel only courier. If that is their plan the business is finished.
