So my manager says the whole changeover is happing this summer. I thought it was over at least a year.
Same at our DO, I understand they are even attending meetings regarding the propsed changes, I feel the only hope is changes being made to the way they are implemented following the trials, unless they are a complete sham and they'll just be declared a success regardless,

Well I'd like to think the rep has a big part to play. I was speaking to one of the manager's today and even he said the lapsing needs to come out which would make things a bit more doable.
The focus was to make duties achievable and if we are delivering around 25-30% more mail in the future then duties need to be 20-30 minutes smaller (ie no lapsing).

If you have 25%more mail, you'll need a 25% smaller duty - i.e. about an hour.

Also, it'll be more than 25% more mail. It'll be closer to double mail, *every day*

25% more mail doesn’t take 25% longer time to deliver.
Unless it’s an extra bit like lapsing that has been bolted into your duty.

True because there can be extra mail but for doors that already have a letter.

Its the call rate that is important - and this way of working is designed for that to increase from an average of 50% to 78% or thereabouts according to Martin. Thats why the duties need to be made smaller to accommodate.

The talk is that the first trial office is hitting a daily average of 90% callrate.
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

Which is why I'm still failing to understand how this is supposed to reduce fatigue unless it's the fact that every 3 weeks you get a week on packets and 1C.

They won’t leave you alone to just do packets and 1c though will they.

They will get you to help the other two on the walk I'd imagine

Weve been told the same in our office. Trials have barely started in the trial offices but we're looking at June. We were told not to worry as thats "months away" AKA 8-9 weeks!

The trial system feels a little like a trap for the union ie get them to help out with the changeover, roll it out and then tell staff "your union agreed to it". Ive fallen foul of that catchphrase a few times over the years.

As to addressing fatigue. Thats laughable. Best case scenario youll be doing your current job with a massive increase in call rate ie walking further. One of the possible duty structures is a 9 day fortnight. Higher call rate and no day off in the week. Genius. I know there will be a longer rest period at the end of the work period but thats hardly addressing fatigue. Higher call rate and no day off in exchange for a longer break at the end of it all.

How are the trial offices handling bulk postings like council tax which will be hitting every last delivery point? Wonder if RM might tweak the DTS system in some way when it's processing bulk postings. If you take for example the council tax, all DOs will get absolutely hammered when the council tax letters hit the 5 day limit in the DTS system and all get automatically released at the same time.

Know our MC got 2 weeks notice of when the council were sending in the council tax letters, hopefully this was also forwarded on to all the DO's in our catchment, so staffing levels can tweaked.

We usually are given 5 days to deliver them.

Given that there is only 1 current trial office the issue of bulk postings probably hasn't come up.
Maybe RM will just do away with DTS. It doesn't seem to fit in with the reforms proposed.
