It would also be the end of the CWU if they agreed to such terms (even they would not be stupid enough to agree to that)
Commit to deliver would be a huge step backwards for not only ourselves as employees but also our human rights....
I would say to our Union look to UPS and their latest deal where enforced overtime has been ended. Why, because they believe everyone should have the right to finish at their contracted finish time. Still waiting for Martin Walsh to come on here and put the whole commit to deliver thing to bed. I agree with an earlier comment that if not the Union will face a no vote.......
How is Royal Mail going to make sure they have staff to cover our days off, annual leave and sickness?...
This is imperative with the new USO with 2nd Class mail only going out every other day as it will pile up quickly and be hard to recover from. You can't have posties coming in on a 1st Class/Parcels day and being told to take out the 2nd class mail from the previous day.
If a 2nd class mail round doesn't go out on the day it's supposed to, what happens? or will Royal Mail make sure this virtually never happens?
Is every office going to have excess staff? does every office have a reliable set of agencies they can call upon to get agency workers to come in and cover? Is Royal Mail going to employ staff on some sort of zero hours contract who are on call to cover sickness?
RM basically doing as they please now,not covering rest days etc….imagine what they’ll do once this USO is relaxed,basically gonna do as they please,with little to no push back from CWU .

They would offer up a 2% back pay lumper bribe to push it though in October time. Sneaky tactics but many will fall for it.

This is what will happen noris. Managers will rely on their brown noser's to help them out and work their days off to get work covered. But they will only come in and work it if they are delivering the 1c and parcels NOT the 2nd class mail that should have gone out the previous day. That will either be lumbered with someone else or as a last resort they will ring the agency to clear it, especially if it's just mail. There is an additional option on the PDA when you sign out that says - agency.

Won't the same apply to agency staff as they'll soon realise they are expected to deliver 2 or more days mail and so choose an easier job elsewhere?
