I'm not sure why the union aren't listening already to offices who currently are doing what you say several times a week due to staff shortages. That's a pilot right there. They will be told that the posties doing 150-200 tracked a day can't do it in 5 hours, never mind adding in 1st class letters, post boxes, specials, customer collections and other non tracked parcels.postiewhite wrote: ↑22 Feb 2025, 15:59Realistically that could be 180 stops in say 5 hours, or 36 an hour some days.funkflex55 wrote: ↑19 Feb 2025, 13:15The driver on their own will also be doing specials, 1c parcels, customer collections and boxes as well as the stated 1c mail and tracked.
Thursday I scanned in 124 tracked, plus you could have 50-60 1C some days as some little advertising cards can come first class, then you have collections, specials and box empties.
That is some day.

Martin Walsh has said for the new USO to work we need to be fully staffed, so sick needs covering, suspensions need covering and of course annual leave needs covering....
Based on the past 3-4 years there's no chance Royal Mail are going to keep us fully staffed.

It is Ofcom that needs to be informed of the failures so that they fine them more than £10m next time.Perseus wrote: ↑22 Feb 2025, 18:00I'm not sure why the union aren't listening already to offices who currently are doing what you say several times a week due to staff shortages. What happens as soon as 1 of the team of 3 goes sick ( and for more than 1 day) or if 2 of the 3 go sick. How the hell will the duties ever be caught up again. The gap between what the spreadsheet says & real life gets forever wider. The biggest problem this company & country has is the rise of technology & how it doesn’t match up with the events of every day real world life. It is really f*****g us all over.

Even if a block of flats they SAY you can walk to is on the main road but in fact you have to walk around to the service road at the rear to access it.

This is the problem. If 1 if the 3 goes sick then I suspect the other two will leave the second class mail and deliver first class and packets on the 4 duties whilst the second class piles up.GRS wrote: ↑22 Feb 2025, 21:34What happens as soon as 1 of the team of 3 goes sick ( and for more than 1 day) or if 2 of the 3 go sick. I think it would be easier to fall behind in this new method then it would now.
Second class is now on the back burner more than ever now.

Re: Are the trials a sham
As I understand it the driver on their own will be doing all tracked & 1C over 2 rounds not 3. The pairing doing the other 2 rounds will do everything over those 2 walks so they won’t just be walking round with a handful of 6th
The non drivers will be walking around with double, if not triple or even more mail every signal day with no help, if the driver struggles they'll get help as RM will still want all the Tracked delivered.
[/quote]
Where will the help come from? There are no spare bodies? Now, we are even failing tracks - sometimes, you just cannot complete. Letters are easier to get rid of than parcels; more variables that can consume you time and planning...
I have failed tracks despite my best intentions - delivery not attempted is now an option on the PDA

It will be as it is now, "make sure you do the tracked" first class letters will be taken out for a ride.

They should just make the driver do the large on 3 out of the 4 duties the drivers job seems miles easier than the ones doing the mail

It'll be interesting to see if DOs see any increase or decrease in the number of duties. On the CSS machines we can get some sort of idea based on the number of walks on the batches

Re: Are the trials a sham
All the changes mean is more work for the staff that remain at RM. There will never be a light day ever again. Continuous 2/3 day mail workloads or driving around getting in and out of the van over and over again. Plus they'll probably want longer days. I'm already knackered doing the shifts we have currently, not sure I could physically do longer days.
