I sometimes do a town delivery and there’s a cheeky b@stard on it that’s got a note on his front door explicitly telling couriers NOT TO TAKE PARCELS BACK TO THE OFFICE and to either try leaving it with someone who lives on another street or ring his mobile phone number!!!

Never sign for anything myself but do leave parcels where I consider it safe , in porch or behind bins etc. if not on busy roads or in public view and always leave a 739 card telling them where i left it.
Shouldn't have to leave 739s anymore with picture taking, it's double Dutch. Plus pens don't work in the rain or dry cold weather.

I deliver by the book.

I've covered my area for over 8 months now and know where I can leave safe, etc.
Signed for's always get signed for and Specials ALWAYS go to the address and get signed.
Too big to leave safe or chucking it down I will return to DO.

Have a 200 address block of flats that if they wont fit in the mailbox in the mail room I go to each address on all 7 floors.
No answer then it goes back to the DO.
Covering myself as theft there is rife. Amazon and Evri just dump the parcels all over the floor :arrrghhh

Afternoon DPR drivers seem to work from the Amazon delivery handbook and dump parcels over car park gates, under stairwells behind lifts, outside entrance to flats in full view of anyone walking past and dump on doorstep, take photo as left safe and leave without ringing / knocking. Oh and they never ever leave a P739. I wonder if that's because the "Not In" or "Inaccessible" fails I get the following day always seem to get that message applied at the time they are due back at the DO :cuppa

I don't give a monkey's about metrics, I do the job as it should be done.
Funny how a LM who tells you verbally to leave parcels at doors won't put that in a email :hmmmm

How much extra work are you creating for yourself, all those parcels you bring back need scanning back in at the DO, then scanning for delivery the next day, reloading back in the van, then attempting a delivery the next day, when there's still a good chance the customer is at work again.

When there's no-one in, you're probably scanning it with the reason at the doorstep, so the system should know that you've got it still. You'd think that the system would after scanning some sort of "End of delivery" barcode at the DO, automatically book any parcels not delivered (or delivery attempted) back into the DO

Some of my customers still have a sticker on their letterbox that RM brought out a few years ago that says "Please return items you can't deliver to the delivery office"
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

That’s the procedure, has your manager told you it’s ok to leave outside flat door? If it comes up an app that’s ok if not do it properly, we are getting more and more work because people cut corners and don’t do the job properly and then you all complain there is to much to do

I respect that and issue a p739 so that they can rebook a delivery or pick it up themselves. No point taking that parcel out again the next day unless they request it.

I'm not creating any extra work for myself, I'm doing the job correctly.

Why aren’t you trying neighbours? Let’s break down just the time wasted when unnecessarily bringing an item back:

Complete all fields on both sides of P739 — 2 minutes
Stick the P739 sticker to the parcel and fill in — 0.5 minutes (30 seconds)
Place parcel in back of van — 0.25 minutes
Remove parcel from van at end of shift, scan it, place in a York (with others) — 0.5 minutes
Put parcel back on frame or in York for delivery tomorrow — 0.5 minutes
Scan parcel to route next day — 0.25 minutes (15 seconds)
Load parcel to York next day — 0.25 minutes
Place parcel in van for delivery next day — 0.25 minutes
Make further delivery attempt — 3 minutes

So at least an extra 7.5 minutes of work caused by each failed item.

Yet If if manage to deliver to neighbour, it takes less than half this time:

Knocking two houses either side — 2 minutes in total
Partially complete front of 739 card with date, time, recipient’s first name and neighbour’s door number — 0.75 minutes (45 seconds)
Post through recipient’s door — 0.5 minutes

Job done!

If you know your duties well enough then you already know which neighbours are likely to be in and which are out at work, unfortunately some blocks of flats never seem to have anybody at home during the day.

Although looking are your own timings your spending the best part of 5 mins knocking doors for each parcel, for 10 parcels a day that's the best part of an hour wasted!

Problem is we all know what the business says and what it wants are different, if I waste an hour a day knocking doors and completing 739 cards then the manager is soon questioning where I've been.

Why is it extra work? I finish on time every day by leaving loops in. Use a trolley for the extra weight or split your bags down.
CUT OFF!!!
