providing the trial is enough to convince regulator (doesn't matter what anybody else thinks, success or not). RM will have the starting pistol ready for June/July.
Historically low volumes in summer season so it's best time to deploy any wholesale change like this.

It might be light on detail other than what we already know but I'd bet my bottom dollar RM already have teams lined up on the detailed design work around who, how and when it will be implemented. It's not as if they will start thinking about that after USO changes have been agreed. The background work will already be underway.

Me thinks the first thing will be to bed in the change in 2025, with minimal impact on duties and overall structures. Then post Christmas start chasing the savings in 2026. So providing the business is case is written so that savings are only expected from Q4 2025/26 or even Q1/2026/27 then it makes VR position even cheaper as they will just rely on natural attrition for the next 6-9 months as well as less reliance on temp staff during peak.

Some of our rounds are trialling it starting next week (only the ones where the duty holders have agreed to give it a go, I don’t blame them they each get every other Saturday off)

We still haven’t recovered from our last “trial” our place is funked up and we’ve got a repick going on at the same time

So can someone tell me is it actually legal for them/us to do this? Has it been approved? Is this another dodgy as funk manoeuvre where our management don’t give a monkeys about the actual law regarding the USO?

Has it got something to do with our rounds failing every day anyway so it won’t actually make a difference?

I just figured it must be legal or our union would be intervening wouldn’t they?
Did your office have a vote on whose doing the trials or were volunteers sought?

Until recently i myself thought early 2026 was most likely.
However, recently it seems that there are basically no obstacles to its implementation.
Everyone that RM need on board is on board.
They will want to do it ASAP, but do have to go through a trial and implementation process.
Also, i do believe that once everything is sorted a 10 week notice period has to be legally observed.
Therefore it would seem to me that early autumn is about as early as it could be.
And then it gets busy and it all falls apart?

And then they bring in permanent agency staff for delivery

Sorry for the late reply (I’m on annual leave and not thinking about the s**t show that is our office)

The DOM/COM went round asking people who he thought might be agreeable to take part in the trial

A lot of people said no because apparently you don’t get a rolling day off and the managers just pick your day off the week before (like they do now for us reserves)

Most people got their own rounds so that they could know their days off well in advance and could plan for it so they weren’t too pleased by that although I guess they can work out which Saturdays they’re getting off maybe?!?

I really don’t know how the whole thing works and I’m not in this week I’m just pissed off because we’re in the middle of a repick and finally after 6 years I’m getting my own duty and I fell lucky and my duty partner is a top bloke

but knowing my luck that’ll all be out the window cest la vie

Simple solution would be to have a genuine revision. Then make Saturdays first class and tracked only. One person should be able to cover 2 rounds if it’s just that so 1 in 2 Saturdays off possible 9 day foughtnight and it will reduce the amount of reserves needed.

Erm… our office is not even on the list of offices that are officially trialing this method

Is that because it’s only a few walks doing it? Do we just not give a flying hoot anymore about the legality of it and Royal Mail will just do what they like regardless?

Wonder how many years it’ll take before we all have to testify to the dodgy goings on by our beloved employers?

No overtime
Most will be on a five day week.
Some work five weeks six days a week then a week off.
Rural I guess people cover certain parcels and specials.
