Whoever buys RM ,It will be asset stripped ,many offices will be sold off ,others will merge together over time, job losses will naturally occur , T & C Will only get worse , me like many others before and after will be going at 55 , I feel sorry for the younger ones who've only been at royal mail for a short period of time, my advice is look elsewhere at this rate there might not be a RM in 5 -10 years and if there is ,we'll you wouldn't be any worse off working in a factory.
You paint a bleak picture but are things really that great now at RM there's been years of a lack of investment at most DO's? Who knows might happen, DK could decide he needs to invest in new offices and even replace the knackered Doblo's etc. He might even realise that the new contracts need improving to try and encourage new starters to stay with the company. I don't get the impression DK has a reputation of asset stripping, more like turning non profitable company's into profitable ones.

Nice to see someone who realises the one thing nobody knows...... Kretinsky, who knows what he has in mind. I love all the speculation as if this or that is what he will do, who knows?
My initial starting of the thread was just to highlight that somebody was buying a business, that if what they claim is true, was doomed to failure.
I personally don't believe it and never have.

The way he goes about that could be awful for workers.

I might be on the cynical tablets but as someone else pointed out on another post, non-operational staff are usually the first casualties and that means line managers, pretendy managers and work coaches who are also pretendy managers.

Our office and I’m sure it isn’t alone, has had a recruitment drive of pretendy managers. We now have at least 7.Is this a cynical move by non-pretendy managers to fill otherwise empty posts with cannon fodder?

If it's not already the case, in DOs all managers apart from 1 should be part time. Once everyone is out on delivery you only need 1 manager at most in a DO to deal with any paperwork and to be the PIC

We still have a com, 2 FT managers and a FT trainee at ours. Most of the time they play darts and pop to Lidl to buy donuts to shove in their fat, stupid, pointless fizogs...

They freely admit that they do nothing after we have left the building. At ours on any given day there will be 5 Lino’s on the big bucks contracts and 3 pretendy managers sitting in the office doing nothing.

Last year's pay deal increased RMs annual costs by around £350 million and although the business started the financial year with 10,000 fewer FTEs, the company are still advertising duties on these inferior contracts with pay that is 10% higher than the market rate. We are transforming and spiralling down towards being a national parcel courier where the competition and the gig-economy model is. Management still consider our jobs unskilled and regardless of attrition rates they know that there are people out there who are willing to work on these inferior contracts.

I've nothing against DK personally but anyone thinking that he is some sort of messiah that is investing half his net worth just to save Royal Mail are kidding themselves. You only have to look at how other industries that have been privatised and sold off to foreign investors to see that all they have done is loaded up the businesses with debt and sell off the assets. While Royal Mail desperately needs better management to fulfil its public service obligations, flogging it off to an overseas billionaire is f***ing nuts. The government needs to put an end to this deal as it will be better for us and better for the public imho.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

RM isn't being flogged off that was done years ago when it was privatised. I doubt there's anything a government can do apart from the possibility of putting an employee or CWU representative on the board, but that could well be a meaningless role.

DK will want to make the company profitable, I'm not sure that will happen if he can't retain staff and get them to work for him, rather than against him.

The government could block the sale under the National Security Act on whatever grounds they see fit but it seems like they have got assurances regarding retaining the brand and UK HQ as well as some protection for employees. There is zero interest in re-nationalisation.

The company is already profitable according to the last set of accounts. Amazon often struggle to retain staff but it has no problems making a profit every year.

You’d think they could send some of these pretend managers out to clear some of the mail that gets left in or some of the parcel surplus to save on paying overtime. Not too sure what they actually do…

They are still OPG grade, so there is no reason for them not to drop back into doing a walk. It actually states in the job description when they apply to be a pretend manager, that they remain at the same grade and will be used where necessary.

assurances regarding retaining the brand
We're a good half decade into trashing the 500 year old brand so we might need to do an Hermes/Evri soon. I can't wait to go through the Consignia fiasco again. If it's going to become GLS UK then for once history might be farce first and tragedy second.

If I had the money I’d being buying shares now.

https://www.parcelandpostaltechnologyin ... years.html
But if you had the money and any business accumin you wouldn't touch royal mail with a bloody bargepole.
So why is a billionaire wanting to buy it.
Rape and pillage most likely, asset rich company sell assets downsize streamline rebrand.Royal mail if my office is typical is not fit for purpose as it stands. If I had money which I don't unfortunately I wouldn't invest as the future is completely unclear.
The future is more and more online sales.
Changes will be made perhaps letters to 3 days a week and then all of a sudden Royal Mail is back maki hundreds of
Millions and Czech dude is laughing.
