OPG
Given that the majority of deliveries are carried out by shared van routes, I wonder if these changes should be postponed until the functionality to support Shared Pair routes is deployed?

Field Planning Manager
We've developed S2CR to support Estimated Delivery Window (EDW) improvements and the first version was built on a basis of a single walk. This version has been working for 6 months at Cranleigh DO so we know it's stable and works- but as you say doesn't cater for shared pairs. We're working with the PDA Technology team to develop an updated version that will support shared pairs / van shares. This work is going on now- we'll let everyone know when the update is available.
Estimated Delivery Window timings only work if you aren’t delivering anything else like letters and only if you stick to a set order. They don’t seriously expect us to stick to timings for delivering individual parcels when the majority of what we are carrying are letters? It’ll be like having a van full of specials that you have to get rid of before delivering the letters.

This thing is more like a DPD style route planner than just an available for delivery scan.
It's going to get very messy I think.

We were informed at our WTLL this morning, that the expectation will soon be that we do the loops with the most Tracked items first.
There was no explanation as to how or why, but then the COM looked like a broken person.

That'll mess up their expected delivery time estimates, if they're based on historical timings they'll be all over the place if loop 1 has the most on Monday but the last loop has the most Tuesday etc :d'oh!

The feedback I'm getting is that managers are very nervous about this change.
Apparently unlike a simple ready for delivery scan these scans will stay on the PDA until the item is delivered, what this will mean is that this will work like the LAT system and plan an "optimal" delivery route.
I would imagine that deviation from this route and order will flag up a prompt for managers to investigate so I think they may be busy...

OPG
Has there been any consideration for how we would preform timed deliveries that have Tracked Items for delivery? I've read through all the documentation and there is nothing helpful. Or, are these, for now at least, given the legacy RFD scan and delivered as normal?
Also, if an OPG was performing parcel delivery on overtime after duty, how would the Tracked Items be allocated and scanned?
Thank you.

Field Planning Manager
if the timed deliveries are taken out on their own, they should continue to use the legacy RFD process. If timed deliveries are taken out as part of your Core Walk, you should use the S2CR application.

If you're undertaking O/T and are taking additional loops from another walk, they can be scanned in and will appear at the bottom of your manifest as unsequenced items.

The PDA Technology team are working on a update for van share / shared pairs that will allow multiple delivery route headers to be scanned and allow 'loops' to be selected from each walk to identify which loops are being taken out for delivery- we'll share more details about this update as it's developed

In the interim, there are a number of options we can use as 'work arounds', as a shared pair:
1. you scan the loops across the shared pair that you are taking out - this means you get visibility of all parcels that you're taking out and that they're on your PDA
2. you and your partner scan your own walks (creating your manifests) and split loops as you do normally - this means you'll not have visibility of the parcels your partner has scanned (and the associated hazards)- and you'll use the normal scan at doorstep to mark the items as delivered

I'll post details about the colour coding...

GREY - items belonging to the delivery route that are in delivery point sequence

RED - Tracked items where the scanning of the 2D barcode hasn’t been able to extract a delivery address and match with Route Manager. All that will be displayed is the Tracking ID and the items are placed towards the bottom of the manifest.

BLUE – Tracked parcels where we have extracted the delivery address from the 2D barcode and matched with route manager. But these delivery points DO NOT belong to the core route barcode header scanned i.e. they are for a lapsed / absorbed walk

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Another question for when the goons get recalled to parliament- why, if you don't prioritise one over the other, does a tracked get a delivery time, and a letter doesn't?
Letters will fail, tracked won't, most of the time.
Its really that simple and an obvious own goal.

Tracked the address of every item is in the system, so the system can calculate an estimated delivery time. Letters and flats that haven't been through a machine, how does the system know what DPs have got mail?

If we are getting so few letters, they can all be put through machines, coded, and timed.
But they're not.
Ergo, they're not treated equally.
And, the "system" cannot calculate an estimated delivery time, as we deliver letters "inbetween" the important stuff.
Stop trying to defend your machines, it's getting tiresome.

That's what we've been saying for years when they tell us the call rate is whatever bollox (insert low number here) percent.

I wonder if long term they'll bring this in or something that works in a similar way:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XGEYHlne35Q

That would cover manual letters and flats, with PSMs that covers most packets
