I'm fairly, decisively and completely sat on the side of the "will never work a strike day, but will work overtime otherwise" camp, and frankly I think that's a fair approach. I both support my union and my co-workers, while minimising my personal loss.

I do not believe that helping RM catch up at an extreme cost of overtime and **reputational** loss is significantly impacting the strikes. It does lessen it, I won't disagree, but I don't think it come all that close to nullifying it at all.

Why then do they bother asking anyone to work days off/overtime at all? There is obviously a benefit to the business or they would just save the money.

The fact is, if you are asked to work your day off or do overtime then you are being asked because it helps them. Why else would anyone be asked? If they really were just happy to fail quality service targets then they wouldnt be asking anyone.
