I was once asked why I'd had 20 separate breaks on a duty I was covering, which was obviously rubbish. I just don't carry the PDA when I don't need to. I'm not carrying it if I don't have to have it, they're bloody heavy.

I don't get how people don't need their PDA's, virtually every road I ever deliver on usually has a packet or parcel to scan or the podd RD letter, the bar codes are now even appearing on letters.

I generally do help, I'll either run oversized or take mail off people but it depends who. Some in our office are that slow, deliberately so in some cases, that I end up doing 75% of the walk. If people take the micky like that I refuse to help.

Plus if your a walker you are already doing larger loops why should you have to help someone whos taking the piss

I’m in the same boat - my partner never helps me and is usually back to the van before me, sometimes by 5 mins or more. Only a matter of time before he gets called in to see manager. For me that’s the only silver lining in this whole “big brother” situation - my lazy arse partner might actually come and help me.

Wow, I couldn't put up with that. But I do appreciate that it's difficult to address. Such selfishness is shocking at a time when pulling together has never been so important! I may be out of touch with the culture that's been allowed to develop, of course.

As long as i can remember in our office its been a case of look after yourself even if its at the expense of someone else, pretty sad really

The duty they were questioning is a rural. There's blocks of units that you walk between, but often there's no packets just the odd letter so I leave the PDA in the walk.

If I have a loop with nothing to scan I leave the PDA in the van, where’s it say you have to carry it?

A whole loop with nothing to scan. The holy grail.

I’m generally of the opinion that if my partner comes and helps me, then I’ll go and help them. If they don’t help me - like my regular partner - then I won’t help them. Treat others as they treat you

i'm under the impression we carry our PDA at all times outdoors unless on a break. Its helps them track us better.

We are meant to carry it at all times, so it was explained me but I told them no because why would you carry it if you don't need to? As I say, they are quite heavy particularly on a route like I was on where you don't need a bag. They're just a pain.

Might be to do with the COM being able to contact you via the phone functionality of the PDA

Everyone working along with their own van will never happen, leaving aside the fact that not everyone can drive it'd be way too expensive to be running that many vans. The running costs of the existing vans must be very high overall as it is
