Re: Voluntary redundancy info
There are already thousands of posties jack the job in each and every year without receiving a penny just to get the hell out.
RM would be overwhelmed with applicants if even the most minimal and basic VR packages were offered, but given the current rate of natural attrition from the workforce I can't see why RM need to even offer that to lose the quoted number of staff.

Re: Voluntary redundancy info
On a national level there may well be a lot of people leaving the business every year. But RM have said that any redundancies will be 'determined on a unit by unit' basis.wacko74 wrote: ↑18 Oct 2022, 14:21There are already thousands of posties jack the job in each and every year without receiving a penny just to get the hell out.

From what I've read on here and other sources, some offices may not be affected at all due to them being understaffed at the moment.
But if you take my DO as an example:
A year ago it was a complete sh!t show following a revision. With walks not being covered left, right and centre, due to a lack of staff.
Over the last 12 months there's been several new starters to bring the place back up to more or less, fully staffed again. A full compliment is about 100.
RM's plans now include removing the large parcels to be done by another office, less and much bigger walks and reducing the overall weekly hours drastically – by the equivalent of 20 odd full time jobs. Plus the probable end to at least Saturday letter deliveries nationally in due course.
That will mean a lot of people potentially leaving my office.
Some may be able to transfer to other units, if there's that opportunity, but I can see quite a few with no job at all. Some of those will have come to the end of their contract which won't be renewed, but some might be able to take VR.

Re: Voluntary redundancy info
Your office must be a very rare example if it really is fully staffed, although In my experience even a ''fully staffed'' D.O. still means that it's ran on a barely skeleton staff level with no slack in the system at all for sickness cover or taking any annual leave without booking it at least 6 months in advance!RobertT wrote: ↑18 Oct 2022, 15:05On a national level there may well be a lot of people leaving the business every year. I do agree once parcel hubs become fully operational combined with a potential reduction in the USO should result in more large scale job losses that couldn't be immediately met through natural attrition.

Re: Voluntary redundancy info
Maybe not......but if you were thinking of leaving anyway it's a nice bonus and I think there's 6000 up and down the country that would jump.NWpostie wrote: ↑18 Oct 2022, 05:24They would struggle to get volunteers at 33 week payment never mind less, that's just over half a year pay, you won't survive long on that while job hunting.
Especially when you knew you used to get 104 weeks max, no matter how crap a job is, the money comes first, bills don't pay themselves.
