Re: CLOCKING IN/OUT MACHINES GONE ?
It would be a strange company that allowed anyone but the employee to scan in and out.
Rather defeats the object of keeping a tight check on employee's whereabouts and time-keeping if their mate could do it for them.

Presumably you'd use the id card you've already got unless it's damaged and won't scan, I'd imagine scanning someone else's card for them would be a novel way to hand your notice in.

Nothing surprises me anymore in this job.
Open a door for someone to face the sack for getting someone else to do it and people will walk right through it.

There is a camera mounted on them too.
N.B if you don’t have your ID card you can key in your payroll number instead.
Anywhere i have worked that had a clock in system it has always been a sackable offence to bang someone else’s card (even if your mate is outside warming the car up)

Re: CLOCKING IN/OUT MACHINES GONE ?
There aren't any RFID chips in the cards. The SISO scanners used in MCs use the RFID chips in the ID cards
It's simply a barcode scanner.
An RF scanner picks up emitted radio frequencies, the clue is in the name.
Why would RM embed 150,000 ID cards with radio transponders when a much simpler, safer and cost effective barcode would do exactly the same job?

There are RFID chips in the cards, it doesn't matter if the barcode is facing away from the scanner. The same RFID chip is what the external door locks pick up. Next time you're stood near the scanner thing above the doors that the mail comes into the office via (that picks up the hidden RFID tags in mail), walk under it with your ID card, you'll see it react to your ID card.Woody Guthrie wrote: ↑03 Oct 2022, 21:24There aren't any RFID chips in the cards. The SISO scanners used in MCs use the RFID chips in the ID cards

If the SISO scanners we use in MC use barcodes, then how come it'll pick my ID card up with the barcode either covered up or facing away from it?

Re: CLOCKING IN/OUT MACHINES GONE ?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't RFID tags need a power source?
The 'technology' used in Royal Mails ID cards is more akin to that what you get in a magnetically charged hotel room key card. Hence why many of them stop working after a while on doors at Mail Centres etc.

Passive ones like what's used in the ID cards don't need their own power sourceCucumber wrote: ↑04 Oct 2022, 09:25Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't RFID tags need a power source?

The PDA based system of SISO used in delivery does not use RFID.
It uses barcode.
It uses barcode.

Re: CLOCKING IN/OUT MACHINES GONE ?
I'd give it a year tops before RM switch DOs to using the same SISO machines as MCs. Nothing really to stop DO staff from scanning photocopies of the barcodes from other people's ID cards. The RFID method means that someone has to physically be in the building to scan out

I'm struggling with the logic behind that.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑04 Oct 2022, 11:17I'd give it a year tops before RM switch DOs to using the same SISO machines as MCs. If you were stupid enough to ask someone to scan out for you and someone was stupid enough to agree to do it why would you photocopy the barcode?
Why wouldn't you just give them your card?
Also you don't really understand the nature of delivery staff, do you think nothing would be said if Bob arrives back at the DO without his partner while the other hundred odd have to come back?
You've invented a situation that wouldn't exist because..
1) If management found out you would likely be charged with gross misconduct.
And.
2) Your colleagues would make sure management found out on day one.

Re: CLOCKING IN/OUT MACHINES GONE ?
No, the whole benefit of RFID is that they are passively powered by radio waves emittted from the scanner. It's like cats-eyes on the motorway - it bounces the signal back to the source.
The machine stops.

If you've got the space for a signing on desk, you've got the room for a SISO machine.2yearpostie wrote: ↑04 Oct 2022, 13:09Not enough space in dos for them sp.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑04 Oct 2022, 11:17I'd give it a year tops before RM switch DOs to using the same SISO machines as MCs. Can't see management being bothered, makes it less likely that people will work to their timeWoody Guthrie wrote: ↑04 Oct 2022, 15:12I'm struggling with the logic behind that.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑04 Oct 2022, 11:17I'd give it a year tops before RM switch DOs to using the same SISO machines as MCs.
