Haven't the pilots been going for a couple of weeks now.... but not sure anyone has come on here to say how they are going so far...

t is important to remember that the CWU has not agreed to full USO reform. If we eventually decide this is the best approach, there will be a national agreement covering this. Despite speculation, the only pilot site deployed is Newton Mearns DO in Scotland. Cumbernauld DO will go live on March 17th.
The other pilot sites will be introduced from now until the middle of May. The sites are being phased in because the flowchart attached to this LTB requires an 8-week process starting with data measurement and concluding with the actual deployment.
Newton Mearns went live this week. The unit’s members chose to opt for two Saturdays off in the month. They also introduced a further duty within the unit.
Whilst it is early days, the initial observation is that all the core mail walks have cleared each day and very high call rates. This higher call rate, some above 90%, is down to the sequencing machine releasing work significantly earlier than before the new duty set. The parcels are being carried out in Glasgow Mail Centre in the meantime.
The combined 1st class/parcel routes on Monday and Tuesday completed the planned delivery spans each day.
Cumbernauld is scheduled to go live on March 17th. They have also selected two Saturdays off every five weeks. Two duties have been put back into the unit, the indoor layout changes have been completed and local parties are working together to review the operation ahead of the go live date.

How big are these offices for these duties to go back in?
Ie if you work in a large office of 100 duties then will more go back in, for example abolish lapsing duties if your office has one.
The union at local level need to MAKE SURE duties are manageable which is what is supposed to happen.

That is exactly what is to happen in the Pilot offices. Walks going back in to make walks manageable.
The Pilot only works if an office is fully staffed with all walks covered. When I say ‘works’, I mean works as in the way they have imagined it will work on the back of a fag packet.
’You can't just ask customers what they want and then try to give that to them. By the time you get it built, they'll want something new.’

There are many offices including ours with stubborn staff that will only deliver what they will do in our time. It's clearly in their interest to get this sorted otherwise certain offices will soon get snowed under. Let's hope things are not as bad as we are all thinking right now. My only positive (and it's a big one) is that I will be able to enjoy more full weekends off.

At the time when the network changes were announced Cumbernauld had 43 and Newton Mearns had 21 duties.
When they say the duties have been put back in what do they mean exactly? They have taken 'delivery points' off the rest of the frames ( for instance the ones added in the last reviusion ) and relabelled them all or are they just not lapsing the duties that are usually down to be lapsed? There is a difference.
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

So the order of deployment is:
Newton Mearns
Ayr- approx 72 walks
Cumbernauld
Girvan - 14 walks

It amazes me how the union could think this idea would reduce fatigue!! They said walks needed to be manageable and the only way to do that is to reduce the size of the walks to compensate for the 30% increase in mail you are delivering.
We would need a further 45m-1hr outdoor time (within our hours) so how is RM going to reduce our indoor time to balance it out when you will have d2ds to prep over 4 walks not 2.
I think they know it's going to increase fatigue, so they are looking at ways of reducing that impact. The main or only way they are looking at trying to reduce fatigue is by working out the best working pattern (days worked/days off).
Good point about more d2ds to prep. As far as I am aware - those on 40 hour contracts will have the same duty span as the rest of us, so surely they'd need extra work sorting....so prepping d2ds for the legacy workers?

That's one possibility I guess. It seems a lot of messing about to trust a manager and a 40hr person to help with your D2D's. There is about a 5th of the staff on new contracts (maybe 25 out of around 130 staff) and non of them are on 40hrs. Our managers are currently bringing in 5 staff per section early (and there are 3 sections) to sort parcels and ips and they are all on legacy contracts. All of our new staff are on 30hr contracts so even if they made them all up to FT then that would only cover a small portion of the whole office so I'm not sure that would work.
I guess most of us are currently in the dark of how they intend to give staff enough time in the day as we will clearly need more indoor time as well as outdoor time to take 2-3 days of mail when we are practically using every minute of the day as it is. I would have thought the only way was to have everyone on 4 day weeks and make it a 9hr working day or as I said earlier or to make the duties smaller which would give us more time to do the extra D2D's and the extra mail. If the duties stay the same size I cannot possibly see a way that this will work.
I'm not sure if I'm missing something here but I can't find any other explanation how this would work in the time we have.

Hmmm "Stubborn staff" what are they doing that is stubborn? Nobody has to do o/t, it's up to the company to make the duties manageable so we can complete in our time.
