Ah……you could be right, I read it the other way to you😆. Mind you someone further up the page doesn’t take a picture cos they don’t agree with it!

:chuckle

What I meant was when you can't actually use your PDA and have to use someone else's PDA later. What would you do in the meantime while you are walking round with Tracked parcels that need scanning? I don't agree with taking photo's of Tracked items using your own phone. I prefer to write them down and then scan them in later.
Why is anybody walking around without a PDA delivering Tracked parcels if it's then leading to them be shown on a list of shame? In my DO if we don't have a PDA we don't delivery Tracked, if we're having problems with the battery not lasting then we take out a spare battery but that's only on the remote rurals.

I've asked many times for spare batteries but there never seems to be any. It's the same with everything in our office, they supply the gear and then it goes for a walk. A few weeks ago, nothing was said, but our van went in for a service and came back minus 12 post bags and a lightweight trolley! We have been getting by with 2 bags and everything else loaded up in trays.

How are we working for a company that doesn’t even have spare batteries or enough PDAs. It’s embarrassing. We had a couple of days with a temp helping and the manager said just take pictures on your phones. 🥸

I know what you mean, when I first started I foolishly assumed red bags would be plentiful, didn't realise they would be as rare as rocking horse s**t, and don't get me started on rubber bands, why oh why do they always wait until they've run out before considering ordering more, I've never worked anywhere that is full of so many people that are managers and Dom support that can't be arsed to do their jobs.

We were called into a circle of about 40 & to bring our PDA with you by our com/dom & told/asked to open our workplace app & tick/acknowledge a message in the notifications, some had not logged in, she checked every PDA had been opened until you were allowed back to your fitting.

That is probably because people won’t spend 10 seconds of their working day doing what they are asked, without being rounded up like petulant kids.

Nothing to do with the managers bonus being linked to engagement with it, of course not, certainly not that.

So they weren't really asked, were they? Because evidently answering in the negative isn't an option. It was a command masked as a request. The latter treats people as adults whose autonomy emerges from the ability to answer in a way that does not align with your aims. As a command it falls to the recipient to determine if it is reasonable or not.

Rounding up staff to have them forcibly open the damned thing is exactly the kind of perversion of intent I've mentioned before. It's bordering on a Vietnamese click farm. Engagement with the medium is more important than the message.
The machine stops.

I’m getting that put on a mug.

You are at work being paid to do a job. I get it, posties are possibly the least employers open to any change, and act like whining teenagers when asked to deviate in any way, but refusing to click on an app whilst being paid is pathetic, whether it is tied to a manager’s bonus or not.

If we were being asked to do it in OUR time, I would get it - hell, I’ve moaned on here enough about being contacted by work in my own time, but you aren’t being asked to clean the toilets, it is not a hardship. There are bigger fights ahead than this.

The app is part of the bigger fight. It’s part of the drive towards micromanaging to pointlessness. It is yet another addition to the working day which does not increase productivity. It does not increase parcel volumes. It does not impact the sales of 1c. What it is, is yet another cost to the business. Yet another element to keep managers occupied on a computer instead of actually clearing offices. We can add ‘Workplace’ to that list. Facebook/Meta are paid how much for that nonsense? The new Drug & Drink Policy and rehabilitation prog. is also going to be hugely expensive to maintain. Will that increase market share?

I understand that you view not clicking on an app as a petty gesture. That’s completely fine and there are plenty who think the same as you. But I view it as yet another wasteful cost which does not secure jobs, and I have a mortgage to pay.

And again, these stats exist and are being used to micromanage your day whether you click on them or not. You aren’t saving jobs or safeguarding your own by refusing to do it.

I often click on the myperformance app once a week but it is rather pointless. It doesn't directly improve our productivity and our PDA's are rapidly becoming like a Swiss army knife by increasing the number of functions on it while the main function for which it was designed i.e. scan parcels on the doorstep in real time, are not as sharp due to the amount of cr*p that is on it.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Does checking this performance app make my customers be home or have a suitable safe place to leave their repeated orders of cheap needless tat from China? Or do I have to start dumping parcels in bins like 80% of our office to boost my first time delivery scores? It’s all a complete nonsense.

I, along with the rest of you, realise this app is of no importance to how i perform on a daily basis. So the question must be asked "Why" they are so interested in us looking at this app, is it a bonus related thing for managers? i for the life of me can't see why they are interested in us looking at these stats, there's nothing in there that is helpful, maybe they think we care and anyone who is scoring badly stat wise will get guilt tripped into working better, faster or more efficiently.
I guess the driving bit could be relevant if the trimble and pda were reliable, but they aren't.
Who knows and who the feck cares, i work as i have always worked and nobody complained before.
The mystery of the performance app will continue until they find something else to concentrate on/take the place of it and that day is probably not that far off.
