I hope the CWU contributes no more money to this Labour government as it clearly has no interest in ordinary working people and no commitment to the universal service.
we recently had a ballot on cwu members on whether to continue to help fund the lab party, a legal requirement every 10yrs or so,
a massive yes vote of just under 21k out of 161k members voted yes to continue funding their own greed
you can still always opt of your own chunk going to them each year, just email the cwu

I had a weeks annual leave last week and have come back to neither duty’s having gone out since last Monday.

There’s 40 plus boxes of mail and sacks of non-tracked with bags full of undelivered mail.

I said to the managers that this’s all didn’t appear on the day I came back and they had many opportunities for it not to end up like it has.

Won’t be back under control until way after Christmas now.

Royal mail has no respect for its employees or customers.
That is f***ing ridiculous. You should take photo evidence of this then go off with stress. Utter clown show of company

For me it's the same old same old....

Without management directly saying it - they essentially agree with posties that the workload is too big by paying out overtime (which they happily do)

but for those who don't want to do overtime.... the management claim the work achievable in time and those posties are the problem and are too slow.

This is the main reason for the toxic culture within Royal Mail and there is absolutely no need for it.

Royal Mail should be setup in a way that eradicates this toxicity and the CWU should be fully involved in that - putting ideas forward.

For me, you eradicate this by setting up job and finish and having different sized rounds to suit the relevant postie. You have a set finish time, but the final hour of the day is paid on overtime. It should not be that hard to design rounds so that they finish within that final hour of the day. The main thing Royal Mail would have to police is whether people are dragging out their rounds to get the full hours pay for the final hour. You would never have to speak to a manager about workload, what to take, what you bought back, ever again. You would reduce attrition rates. You wouldn't need as many managers either.

I did 20 years and left 5 years ago. While I was there I spoke to higher up managers, preposed ideas got ideas from the postman even helped world class mail to try to get some solutions in, but in the end found no one above the Dom actually cared it was just about the budget and our managers had no power to change anything. Don't get yourself too upset because the Royal Mail that could adapt and was interested in serving our customers was killed a long time ago.

i just approach every day with an attitude that I'll do what I can inside the time they pay me for. There's no incentive to go above and beyond for sake of the company. I know it sounds sad and depressing, but since I've been doing this my mental health has much improved.

That is a disgrace and the manager(s) should be sacked
That is a deliberate delay of mail no matter what weasel way they try to say otherwise
I would just do the bare minimum and let it pile up - their mess their problem

Make sure to dig the 1st class out, now that the company suddenly gives a s**t about that

I'm into my 12th year now and I turn 52 this month and I seriously need to aim not to do another Christmas at Royal Mail.
The minimum wage is going up a hell of a lot faster than our pathetic 2-3% we get each year so realistically this WILL be a minimum wage job within 5 years.
The hours are literally the only positives I can think of now, for the rest I'm constantly tired, especially on a Saturday night when it's my night to go out or do something fun, I ache a lot, suffer with back issues, I've already had 3 bouts of tonsillitis and 2 lots of chest bugs this year of which the doctor has told me I'm literally run down,. I got treated like crap by the managers for being off for only 2 days last week because I was so poorly and the value in us from them is ZERO. This attitude is probably the icing on the cake.

I'm off to get my class 2 HGV in the summer, not everyone's cuppa but I know friends in my area which have done this and they only do day work only, lots of local work delivering food etc and get a full weekend off and earn £250 more a week what I get which probably means I can retire 7-8 years earlier than I would if I stay as a postie ( that's even if I can still do the job). They also have much more energy having moved from physical jobs.

Time to take control of me now and not just depend on this job. A few years ago I was scared of the grass not being greener but there is literally nothing to stick around for nowadays. Shame cos I did love this job.

You tried to eradicate the toxicity? did you put an idea similar to mine forwards?

It's the CWU that should be pushing for something like this. Dave Ward even mentioned the toxicity again in the Youtube Live the other day - what is he actually doing to try to resolve this. The only way to resolve it in my eyes is to have a fundamental change to the way our contracts are setup. We have to have the 'job and finish' idea I set out above in place.

This is mostly an idea to solve toxicity within the office that management cause, but will also benefit the customer. Fixing this would improve productivity as so much time will be saved not having to discuss things with management which often result in arguments as managers are unreasonable, which lead to further problems down the line including posties leaving. The toxic culture does not benefit Royal Mail, it hinders them.

Said exactly that yesterday to the manager.

Told them to make the decisions each day on what they want done and I’ll bring back anything else that could take me past my time as usual.

Also got a new starter with me and you can’t help but feel for them too.

Been dropped in it massively they have and its no wonder new starters keep leaving.

You speak a lot of sense but most posties really don't help themselves. I'm writing this now and some posties are already in the office and have probably been in there for over an hour putting mail and parcels in their own frames UNPAID and I've yet to clock in.

If they were getting an extra hour's prep or IPS I would understand it but all they are doing is making the impossible look possible!! lol
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

You think that's bad ?

I was away for 15 days and when I got back on the Tuesday my co-workers informed me that the day before on the Monday the mail went out for the first time since I was away.
