In our office the DUM and DUMMETTS try to tell us that at x-mas their is a no cut off policy every year its the same he never gets it but he still tries.

Same at my office mate just the same bloke every year and he spends a large amount of his time moaning about other peoples leave and how its not on that people swap ectera(even though when you get your leave sheet you have to choose some dates nearly 15 months in advance)damned crystal ball never has worked very well!

DISAGREE--- LAST YEAR WE HAD SIX ON ANNUAL LEAVE OVER THE CHRISTMAS PRESSURE PERIOD, THIS YEAR WE HAVE EXACTLY THE SAME.

A few in our office get Xmas off as it is there rota week (5 on 1 off), as far as I'm aware there is no annual leave leading up to xmas.

There didn't used to be here but I believe there has been a minor change because it wouldn't be possible to fit everyones holidays in if we didn't use those weeks leading up to christmas. All holidays used to cease on 30th November.

Can anybody tell me anything about working your normal hours during this period? Asked my DOM and he stated you had to do O.T during the xmas pressure. I never do O.T full stop and say he is wrong. He says its its in your contract. Can,t find mine but think he,s talking s..te

Generally they cannot make you do O/T.
But some of the newer temporary contract part time staff on here have said that it
is in their contract that they have to do O/T as required. If you are one of these it would
seem you may have to do it, or your contract might be terminated or not renewed.
You should speak to your CWU Rep to check your position if that is the case.

The Christmas period used to be a closed period for leave and you
could only get it in exceptional circumstances.
Since last year a small number of people (5%?) in each unit can take leave
during this period. I think it's part of a National Agreement but can't remember
which one, but I think it was when we went on to signing for A/L 18 months ahead.
I had leave over Christmas last year for the first time in 27 years. It was quite easy
to get as most people in my mail centre want to do OT/SA during the Xmas Pressure period.
So if you want leave over Xmas put in for it on the next AL signing - but this would be for Xmas 2008.

In our office last year we were offered 15 hours over 2 weeks and six people opted out and just worked their normal hours.

As long as you inform the DOM before the pressure starts you can opt out.

However several people tried to opt out half way through as they dumped s**t loads of extra work on us but found that they had no choice but to do it.

The screws tried to insist on no cut offs but a several people told them they were cutting off to which the response was hrrrrrr or something like that and when they did cut off there was nothing they could do.

Just make sure you have a witness present when informing them you are cutting off.

Senior man. been in the job for 17 years mate so have done the OT at Xmas obviously.Just with these new start times on the horizon won,t be able to work past 14.00 due to personal circumstances, just like to know the score before I write my letter stating I won,t be working past 14.00 as and when the later starts begin. I tell ya wot.... Ive worked in Dist.. Proces.. And Deliverys... And O/T at Xmas is harder on deliverys and much more stressful.. Proc... IS Just marking time and Dist is just a few more runs.... No i would like to see any Casuals put on Deliverys as bag carryers and Helpers on delivery.... Not flooding MC's and sitting on there arses as they know feck all... Ive seen 20 casuals at xmas that should be a three duty job and they are doing feck all and screws asking posties to train them and babysit em!!!! FECK THAT!!! They take the piss and our jobs away then ask us to help rip O/T away from ourselves!!!! WOT THE FECK IS THAT ALL ABOUT???? Give the casuals the s**t jobs not the senior jobs or so called easy jobs.... Ive always thought this ... RM stick thousands of em in to MC's and Hubs all over but none in DO's In my time anyway....

Then maybe the delivery people could come and do the O/T in the MC's....
