The problem was as as i told them that ,they simply would not believe what i told them!
Amazon and Evri are making doorstepping the norm, I'd imagine one day we'll all be told to doorstep in lower crime risk areas as RM are losing so much work to the competition, what's the point in RM hiding parcels/taking them back to the DO when the competition just leave it on doorsteps?
I went to one of our local SPDO's attached to a PO the other day, the area where RM 'No Answer's' used to be stored before 'second delivery attempt' came in, is now rammed with what is 'EVRI Local Collect'. It's actually cheaper in EVRI to send to a EVRI drop off shop than it is to EVRI it to the recipients home address.

They do that with the grey cards! Shouting 'I'm in, I'm in, why didn't you knock?' - Read the f card!

If you start bringing double the amount of parcels back because all safe places are deemed off limits then you’ll end up getting harassed to no end when you keep handing back. There needs to be a happy medium.

Yeah I noticed that, just think how easy it would be for RM to copy that in the same way they copy most things that the parcel companies do, all we'd need is a small section of the delivery office that's open to the public and we wouldn't even need to deliver to or collect the items from the "parcel shop"

Prior to working at RM I worked with a guy who proudly said "I sign all my eBay parcels with an X then complain that it isn't my signature and try to get my money back" and a woman who would look at her ring doorbell notification and say "it's just the postman I'll make him wait."

As a result I've rarely trusted customers

Relevant to this I suppose. Tesco are trialing body worn cameras for their delivery staff. Wouldn't want them personally, but they'd at least cover posties when dealing with a dishonest customer.

Some customers don't even seem to bother answering the door just assuming we'll leave the parcel in their porch or a safe place then, when you take it back to the DO they complain you didn't knock because for some odd reason they think we'd sooner bring a parcel back rather than delivering it!!

And imagine if you had a postal hub in pretty much every city, town, village, where you could leave parcels for customers to collect. They might provide loads of other services too.

It could be part of Royal Mail's network, let's call these places a "Post Office"

Exactly this. Take the bloody shackles off and let us get on with it. It`s inevitable as the "Peak" pressure increases.

Had a woman chase me raging that I'd left a card even though she was at home. I calmly pointed out it was a DPD card and walked away.

These are the customers you need to punish, pre-write the 739, ring everything & hard knock & card it, walk away, ignore them shouting you up the street, let them come to you in their slippers/bare feet/rain, they soon start answering the door in future, thank me later :thumbup

I think you need to drop the 'door' from 'doorstepping' from what I've seen of Amazon's operation lately. They're dumping packets on the first step of the close stairs as if they're delivering takeaway leaflets.
