Saves you from doing what every day? It's hardly difficult to turn off the ignition and take the key with you whenever you get out of the van?
Do you now have one for your own car as well just he case you park it and walk off with the key still left in the ignition?

It saves me at least 10 seconds at every stop, probably much more, in not having to hunt in my left pocket for the van key on my return to the van. That’s 10-15 minutes saved on a busy day in hunting for a van key.

Too much! Marker pens, drop key, cigarette lighter, cigarettes, gloves. The other pocket is even more littered — 739s, pens, my car key, mobile phone, some other crap I can’t remember.

Similar try to have as little as possible in my pockets, I take a rucksack for all my incidental stuff that I don't need about my person at all times - car keys, hat, sarnie box, cagoule etc

It retracts automatically with a slight downward tug.
Another advantage — when lifting a heavy box with both hands you can lock the van without needing to somehow get the key in your pocket, thus obviating the need to put the box down on the ground, lock the van, put key safely in pocket, then re-lift big box from the ground, etc, etc. Anyway, the lanyard works well for me even if not for you/others.
