Happening next week in my office apparently at the moment we have d2ds for each day labelled Monday to Saturday and a column at the end my partner clears his every day well I take houses that get mail, so with vertical prep am I right that the Monday column for example will have a full day's d2ds for that day as we are prepping downwards, well it won't effect me that much it could potentially with double slots have him going to well over 100 delivery points on a certain day or have I got it wrong?
Yes the vertical prep does result in the whole loops with unaddressed mail. This means an imbalance in paired duties as the other loop has no unaddressed mail. There has been no change to the standard operating procedure. Have you considered prepping the unaddressed mail horizontally?
That would be 25% across 4 days rather than 20% across 5 though?
With so called 'warm calling' on double slotted frames and weekly and 100% delivery targets this is a disaster waiting to happen surely?

The MC recycling bins can only be emptied so many times per week, what with our greenwashing agenda over the last few years etc :whistle :left:

The horizontal prep could be the same amount as the vertical prep.

No s**t Sherlock. Doesn't make it any easier for the OPGs on delivery though does it? In fact, making frames entirely double slots makes it more difficult...

Our frames have always been double slots that's why we've never prepped d2ds in the frame

Our frames have always been double slots that's why we've never prepped d2ds in the frame
Most of our frames have been double slots for 20 years. We do prep them into the frame, Monday to Friday.

We used to prep Mon to Thursday rows to get rid of them, but that ended many years ago

With the stupid vertical frames you might as well not bother putting the D2D in the frame if each column is aligned with a loop. Just carry a bundle of D2D behind the bundle of letters. While that would mean immense cold-calling at present, paired with the looming ODM we'd be back at 90% callrates and consequently warm-calling almost everything once over the ground.

Regards making it easier to prep packets to the corresponding loop in the vertical arrangement... the top row takes frame labels. They always have.
The machine stops.

It's not overly difficult to work out what 20% of a frame is when prepping D2D horizontally. Count the sections and divide by 5.

Even on the older horizontal frames there were plenty that had more than 5 columns going across or columns with less calls per slot (large firms with multiple space slots etc) than it's double slotted neighbour so you got the odd loop with more D2Ds on given days.

It's no big deal, it really isnt
It really is. In my 21 years in the business, it is the worst change Royal Mail have made indoors operationally by an absolute mile!

Why, it's just a case of relearning the frame, just like it is if you're ever asked to prep a new duty, if you're slower doing it for the first week then it's the company's issue/expense.

Because its completely unnecessary, splits up streets to a completely illogical manner and oh... did I mention there are those of us with many years service who are used to prepping it the old way and is having to unlearn years and years of muscle memory.

Whether its the companies issue/ expanse is irrelevant. It is going to be slower, which leads to more failures, which leads to a more stressful workplace with greater potential for conflict.

It's only stressful if you make it that way, if the business wants to change the way we've prepped frames for years they've just got to accept we're going to be slower.

It's no real difference to being suddenly told 1c mail is now also a priority, its something else which will take us longer when we just delivering Tracked packets on a duty.

You are making assumptions everyone is able to deal with that mentally. Some are natural worriers, suffer from anxiety etc. And this continued s**t show, added to by this vertical prep nonsense will be affecting their lives in a significant way.

It really isn't a big deal. Everything is still the same, everything's done in the same order.

Just takes a while to get used to the new layout, that's all.

Don't sweat the small things ffs!

Totally agree !! Frame like most , flowed easily horizontly , now its just a mess . Little bits of streets everywhere , longer to box in, even tying up takes longer. Just nuts this has been forced upon us and just before christmas pressure !! USO has no chance with this.

No it isn't a big deal, when we went from pigeon boxes to the the rm2000 fitting everyone in our DO thought it mad but we soon got used to it, I've got used to these new fittings after a week or two, having said that I really don't see an advantage
