Question on a repick-

Would new contract newbies be allowed to select a dedicated duty if one was to become available that no else wanted?
Yes. It’s done on seniority so if duties are available when it’s your pick choose what you like.
I’ve landed on one at the moment that no one seems to like but I love it, I’m really hoping that is available. But have a feeling the one I absolutely despise will be what I’m lumbered with…

Would a repick be before or after any possible VR’s? There are quite a few in my office that have openly talked about taking them if they come up and that would obviously affect seniority.

I’m guessing the VRs would be issued before any repick.

So Woody84, the trick is to not imagine you will get a walk pick in the first round, because those with seniority will get a pick first, but still put your name in the hat.

The second round is different because those with seniority have already picked and now THEIR old walk is up for grabs.

When we have a repick, every duty goes into the pot, with no exceptions. It's normally a completely new duty set. It starts with the person with the highest seniority, and works down, each person gets to pick from the duties that are left.

You're describing a vacant duty signing, rather whole office re-sign.

We had the former last Autumn after a third of the duties had become vacated due to the post-strikes exodus. Those who were formerly in the mid rankings got themselves solo duties in the first wave and then newer staff landed the vacated P&L ones in the second wave.

A full re-pick proceeds straight down the seniority list until all vacancies are exhausted.
The machine stops.

I think Tony Blair was still on the throne when my office last had a full resign. Before the pilot there is going to be a temporary re pick because of walks going back in and then after Ofcom makes a decision who knows what they’ll stick to.

19 years since our last resign 🙄
Off the top of my head, I think there’s only one person still on the delivery they originally picked.

Just looked on the revision for one of the walks I know very well and well blow me down it's a total cock up after looking at it for just 2 seconds.
Go to first delivery point driving down a dead end road covered by another walk and deliver to 3 block of flats.
Then drive thro a "NO ENTRY" for half a mile to next set of 8 flats. Seriously ?
ANPR camera's being installed in next few month's at this location :dance

In reality you actually have to drive 2 miles past 90% of the walk to get to the set of 8 flats :d'oh!

Sounds like whatever mapping system they use isn't fit for purpose or years out of date if these no entries etc are changes that have happened over the years, will they be listening to any staff input or will it be the usual f**k it up then disappear the day before it's implemented

I can’t go into details, but a major issue are incompetent gatekeepers who will not share info with someone who could correct it. Why they cling onto botched data, I do not know, but the sooner these people are made to walk the plank the better.

Can't remember the last time our office had a revision and re-pick either. There are two main reasons for this:

1. The majority of posties are on "fixed walks" and don't like change. In our office, over half the posties have either bypassed seniority by bagging duties they never signed for OR applied for a part-time position and then very quickly got made up to full-time.

2. Most managers don't like the upheaval of revising duties and having a re-pick. We were initially due to have a revision to put duties in and correct some of the duties which are clearly bigger than others, but a re-pick? I think hell might have to freeze over first. :chuckle Even our USO reform is being planned to keep posties on these duties but how it will save the company any money is anyone's guess.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Sounds like our place, I'm sure it's written into the USO reform process that there's supposed to be a repick it even says an initial temp one, I think it was also confirmed in last week's CWU update, I bloody hope they don't try to bypass it when it gets to our turn I can see management trying to do exactly that, I'm actually hoping the resident office mouthpieces cushy numbers get decimated so they demand a repick.
