There was mention of c14 million parcels per annum being diverted. That seems a small proportion of RM overall parcel volumes…. I suspect it will only be in areas where it makes operational or economic sense to lose the oversized to PFW, eg, town HCT walks, but who knows.
Could some of that be all the SDs?
It could be some of the SDs, but I’m not sure it would be all of SDs. A LWB Sprinter would struggle to access quite a few of our more rural DPs, and in one or two cases it would be impossible.
With the new parcel scanning system in MCs, I wonder if RM might move the foreign specials back over to normal parcels. They went back to SD lockers as DOs were failing to scan them properly. Take them out and that's a sizeable chunk of workload gone for SD lockers.

I wonder how many deliveries to the same house a customer will be getting in the future, the regularly postie arriving with a small packet/parcel, the DPR driver with a shoe box sized parcel, the PF driver with a large parcel then the LATs driver arriving later with a Moonpig card or Vape packet. Meanwhile the Amazon driver will turn up with all 4 similar sized parcels in the one deliver and leave them all on the customers doorstep!!

What does "increased synergy" actually mean, that RM will be delivering even more large parcels for PF, as I doubt they are going to be taking more of RM's small parcels?
No you will not be taking Parcelforce Parcels we will be taking yours over shoe box size starting in JULY ,
We will be switching to royal mail PDAS and routing system in JUNE .
Wow your existing system must be pretty s**t if that's classed as an upgrade :chuckle

Our DPR routes only take parcels over "shoebox" size and Amazon often split their deliveries but I get what you're saying

Yeah I remember that, they were supposed to be treat as though they were tracked but because they didn't get scanned in do's they were put back to being with sd's,our manager never even mentioned it I only knew from reading it on here, so typical RM solution to a problem rather than fixing it by telling people to do their job properly.

Seems obvious to me.
They're getting rid of the DPR routes from June.
Not really that surprising given how inefficient it is.
If that is the case, why on earth can't the CWU just come out and say it instead of talking about "synergy".

Was told last year we would take their rural parcels and they would take our residential oversize.

Good….let PF take the lot. We know why RM want PF to take the work - they’re Owner Drivers!!
There are only supposed to be 25% owner drivers at each depot , at our depot it is 30% but the union is doing nothing about it .

The union will probably roll over soon and let them have 100% owner drivers .

At our Parcelforce depot the owner drivers are given the rural rounds because they are less profitable .

The CWU couldn't care less about the owner drivers, which are really franchisee. For a start they charge them the same membership rate as the directly employed drivers despite having no collective bargaining agreement for the owner drivers. Absolutely shameless. All the CWU care about is financing the running of the union to keep all the lazy bag avoiding full time officials in a job.

This 'synergy' is no such thing. It's about efficiency and profit. There's more profit in having one worker delivering everything instead of numerous as happens now. The singleton duties such as firms and rurals are perfect for 'synergizing'. The very fact that under ODM there is no plan for these duties should be a warning to postal workers that rural and firms duties are at risk. The CWU know this and despite having plenty to say about it in their cosy meetings won't tell the members.

We've only a couple of PF vans regularly delivering parcels in our DO's area, the only way they could take over the rurals and firms is with a big recruitment drive plus a move to also delivering mail. I'm not sure that many of rural & firms posties would be too upset to be offered VR as they tend to be the long serving posties anyway.

Voluntary sacking is part of the problem. Workers don't support the smashing of jobs just so others can volunteer to be sacked. All workers will be doing more under ODM so that negates a 'big recruitment drive'. There is a push for workers to sign up for agency work though. Have a look at the agency website.

I think there’s plenty the CWU aren’t telling its members. They’re a disingenuous bunch of crooks

Ever been stood at a door with three other couriers all waiting for someone to answer? We'll capture 70% of the parcels market this way!
