Don't agree to day off scheduled then. If you need to work your day off for monetary reasons then start looking for another job because RM wages are a joke.

There was a change of circumstances in my personal life and I was unable to continue working my rest days so I gave 4 weeks notice. My manager has said that if I come off my S/A rest days he will move me from my actual duty. This can't be right as my duty and overtime are 2 separate things. Any advice would be great![]()

Re: removed from duty
If i'm not mistaken, these 5 days plus 1 on S/A were requested by staff as a local agreement years ago. So it's not as simple as saying they don't agree to do it.

Re: removed from duty
Does your DO have floaters to cover day off? What about reserve duties? How many 'official' walks at your office, not including all the lapsed duties chopped up and added onto walks at this present time?

Re: removed from duty
Yes I'm in a DO. about 30% of the office work there rest days on SA. It has been going on for years. I signed for a duty like everybody else in seniority order. I agreed to work my rest day on SA. Due to personal circumstances I can no longer work my rest day. I gave 4 weeks notice to come off my rest day. My manager has now removed me from my duty and put me reserve. This can't be rightLondonsburning wrote: ↑25 Feb 2025, 18:42I've never seen day off scheduled in a delivery office to cover your own walk tbh. That would not put you at the front of the queue anyways. Are you in a DO?Perseus wrote: ↑25 Feb 2025, 18:37S/A rate for overtime is higher than standard overtime rate.Londonsburning wrote: ↑25 Feb 2025, 18:06The only reason I can think of agreeing to work your day off as 'scheduled' is getting paid the extra money when you're on holiday. Nowadays if you work your day off every week you get that payment anyway.
Plus it also puts you at the front of the queue for any overtime, pretty much guaranteed.
As I've said, it must be a managers dream to resource and in this case they aren't happy about the OP exercising their right to stop doing it.
S/A for any delivery OPGs has always been collections at the local MC

You'll need to ask people who have day off on S/A those questions.Londonsburning wrote: ↑25 Feb 2025, 20:14Does your DO have floaters to cover day off? What about reserve duties? Suffice to say, they won't need as many day off covers, will they?

Did you start doing the S/A day off as soon as you signed for that duty? i.e. was it a condition of doing that duty?
Is the person who is now doing the duty now working their day off on it?

Agreed locally by CWU and management. do you think I should be removed from my duty?Londonsburning wrote: ↑25 Feb 2025, 20:48The question is why does your DO work on day off scheduled?cuboid wrote: ↑25 Feb 2025, 20:34Yes I'm in a DO. about 30% of the office work there rest days on SA. Re: removed from duty
You cover your own walk on scheduled attendance on day off?
Umm f***ing right you should be questioning why that is even allowed at your DO pal

Re: removed from duty
I don't know what to say as to me it shouldn't have been implemented in the first place and it's now a case of does two wrongs make a right?
Nobody on here can change your situation, take it to the union and see where you end up.

Re: removed from duty
People can go round in circles arguing that it shouldn't happen etc, but the fact is that it does.
Years ago in some offices they decided that they would rather have guaranteed S/A overtime to cover their day off rather than employ someone else to do it - i.e. reserves.
There are many things like this such as differing shift patterns etc.
Now, the pertinent point here, is did the OP sign for a duty that already had the condition of S/A for day off on it, or was this added on later? If you've signed for a duty that had S/A as a condition, and only you know this, then that could be why you've been taken off the duty.
