We had some in 2008 I think, they all got 104 weeks plus colleague shares to cash in. We all did a 'training exercise' about 5 years ago which was massively oversubscribed so nobody got it unfortunately

Yes two senior men at our place got it, approx 40k each apparently, and a few weeks later we took on new starters as we didn't have enough staff, f***ing unbelievable to anyone who hasn't witnessed first hand how this company is run

Something seems to be happening as we've never had so many new starters, most have stayed too and I think we may even be over staffed now.

Why don't they ask posties if they'd drop to working a 3 day week or something similar before paying out redundancy money. They'd get some takers, even if it's just 100 posties nationally, that's hundreds of thousands of pounds saved on redundancy.

Basically I think they want people on the old contracts out of the door rather than encourage them to stay by giving them a shorter working week.

The company have already demonstrated they'd rather make the job undesirable so people leave of their own accord instead of paying out VR.

There's no way the terms will get better from here on.

P&O proved that it is not necessary to offer redundancy to replace existing workers with casualised labour. It's about time Ward and Walsh and all the idle bag avoiding bureaucrats got off their knees. You don't fight a DP World by sitting in cosy meetings chatting bollocks. We save this industry and save our jobs by taking action, now.

P&O weren't a UK based company so not they are not really relevant to RM.

And this is why the working class is in the mess it's in. It contains people like toppergas.

Think you will find that the P&O scenario won't be allowed to happen again, for a while anyway, the government would leap on anyone trying it from a great height.

Plan B 2025 is probably to get the USO change and Dan the man into power, followed by more whipping and beatings for the workforce as Plan B fails miserably and us lazy, overpaid posties will be held accountable.

If you left RM and worked p/t for Asda or Morrisons stocking shelves etc are you really going to worry about what the owners are doing? Regardless DK has no prior history of asset stripping.

Interesting you mention Asda. Like DK, the new owners of Asda bought the company in a leveraged buyout. A giant loan, to the layman. So you can bet he'll be looking to make that money back and more.

Asda was expected to flog off their warehouse and distribution arm in order to make a quick buck and then rent it back from the new owners (makes sense to the suits). Someone on here was floating the idea that a breakup of RM and IDS might involve IDS retaining the Superduperhubs while the mail centres were left to crumble, thereby creating a situation where RM would have to pay IDS to sort our own stuff. He might not asset strip, but when it gets cold don't be surprised to see the furniture go on the fire.
