I am not sure that Royal Mail's aim is to piss off their new staff, but instead piss off the posties on the older & better contracts....

How they have attacked us so far.

1. They have understaffed offices causing us to have 2 days worth of mail once a week for 3 years.

2. Making our rounds excessively big alongside management harassing us claiming the rounds were completable - yeah right.

3. Reduced sick pay.

4. Coming soon - Delivery 2.0 is coming in and I have no understanding of how that concept is going to improve efficiency or benefit the company in any other way other than to annoy posties yet again.

They seemingly want to push those on the older contracts out, if that means pushing out the newer posties too - then so be it....they can simply recruit replacement posties on that rubbish contract.

Yes they are f***ing off the new contracts now too not just old contracts.
When you get AGENCY taking the 2 hours sorting you did knowing sortation of walks, well what can I say.

Clearly the above is a union rep, or closely aligned to the union, or supports the union etc. And what they choose to do is attempt to patronise a paying member with links to documents that are not a reality in workplaces throughout the UK. Its pathetic. Its why we are in the mess we are in. For the past five years we have had documents from the Union formalised that do not represent the reality in offices. The document you link to, which Ive read it just ridiculous.
It even involves Work Time Coaches who the majority accept the money and run. This document is old and yet there are still been no improvment.

Stop being ideological and accept criticism. Nobody can tolerate critique anymore, they have to be the smarty pants. Its how things improve and how problems are exposed. Links to documents that do not manifest in reality just proves my point.

The union warned us,did we listen? I have seen so many new starters leave within 6 weeks lately due to the unachievable workload and poor wage.
Many other companies including courier firms and warehouse work are paying more for much better family friendly hours. I can't believe the way this has gone. Hope we are getting a decent rise soon.

A lot of the guys who have joined recently are not getting the hours they were promised and are likely to leave after Xm*s. Shame, they`re good lads. Some are having to mop up the oversized on failed walks to earn the money, as they`ve got young families, but it`s not family friendly hours.

The CWU came to a compromise which happens in all negotiations. But yes it was a terrible agreement, they gave far much leeway to the employer.
They should have acted how the train union operated and keep the dispute open to increase leverage.
It has been ruled recently that using temps/agency in a strike period is illegal so RM would be severely hampered through strike action at present.
If the Union would have kept the dispute going, without even needing to strike, it would have caused uncertainty for the business and forced their hand.
I know people say that the business was going to implement what it wanted to anyway. But markets matter and customers matter. Being in dispute and having the option to strike gives massive uncertainty affects their bottom line.

Red i had all these arguments on here a few years ago when we eventually voted for this piece of turd wrapped up like a present, people, while not really wanting to vote it in, felt they had nowhere else to go and the unions capitulation leaked into the workforce, as usual so many who talked the talked couldn't back it up.
But that's democracy and people for you, we are where we are and the union show no sign of coming to are rescue.
Xmas will be crap in my wee office as we need 2 employees for a full compliment and our newbie left after a week and nobody has been started to get trained properly before xmas.

The very least you'd expect is a waterproof coat when it's pissing down. It's not wonder no one stays.

Well there doing a good job by pushing the old staff out the door by making the walks even bigger. We are currently at 4hr 30min delivery but most days it's more like 4hrs and having to cut off because of the amount of pkts to sort in the morning (everything is have a knock on effect).

5 hr delivery's are coming our way and some of the guys are saying there jumping ship as they will be exhausted by the end of the day far less than the end of the week. The business think we are robots but like robots we'll soon break down and be replaced I guess.

The business doesn't want somebody knowledgeable and friendly to deliver the customers mail and parcels any more. Most customer's don't blink an eye lid when you hand them over there parcel, and would complain to customer services that you left the parcel on the ground and didn't bother to pick it up for them.

It makes you wonder who RM do want working for them? They are trying to force out older staff on legacy contracts yet are keen to recruit folks on these new horrible contracts who seem to come and go on a weekly basis.

It feels like a critical point right now as the parcel workload continues to increase yet RM want to alienate both tiers of this two tier workforce. It’s mad.

Burn it down to its foundations, get rid of those on legacy contracts & then build it back up.
Only they built a wooden shed on earth which is sinking into the bog!
RM will continue to have a high turnover of staff with Managers working off a spreadsheet.

I once worked in an Amazon distribution centre and the turnover is very reminiscent of what's occurring now on these new contracts.

The difference was that anybody could walk into the warehouse and learn the job within 2-3 hours. Not quite the same when it comes to throwing off and delivering across multiple duties.

Exactly, plus IPS another time consuming aspect that takes a while to learn. I've thought the same since it was becoming increasingly apparent that they're obsessed with us being overpaid in what they class as a minimum wage job.
