Be interested to learn how long did it take for your body to rid me he aches!

Thank you Tower. I’m very fortunate in that I don’t get many aches as I’m fairly physically fit. That’s partly why I’m leaving while in my 30s - I’m seeing colleagues here in their early 50s having all kinds of knee, back etc problems. For me it’s just the tiredness, it will be nice not getting to 7pm and feeling like a zombie!

Didn't realise BT had retired.. Good luck in your future job HT. Oldie here, want to say so much, but times change and with that sometimes it's best to just keep your own councel and get on as best you can. No rep in our office. Not seen or heard of one since they wanted us to strike. I still pay, but often wonder why and then think of the big picture. Sometimes I think too much.

Thanks BT. Even a couple of years ago I was fairly content. I guess I’ve just been ground down by constantly being moved from my day off duty pattern, the lack of organisation, having to argue with a manager about why a 14 bag / 60 oversized tracked round can’t be done within my hours. Like you, I’ve not seen a rep. I have no ill feelings towards them, it’s not a position I could do but my last 3 requests for help have been ignored. Oh well, it will soon be a worry of the past.

I still lurk around on here as I did before I left. Funny enough I had a nightmare the other day that I had to come back again as a postman.

It's probably some sort of curse. Been thinking I wouldn't mind coming back as a network or collections driver but fck doorstep delivery.

Yes it’s definitely gone downhill a lot since Covid, it’s not just the job itself but the general public, it’s gone from thumbs up for your postie and cute thank you messages in chalk on the driveway to why is my parcel 5 mins outside of the estimated (key word) window.

Since COVID eh? Personally I thought it went to s**t when Park and Loop was introduced

My 2 separate stints at RM means I kinda avoided the fall out from park and loop. I’ll explain.

In my first stint we went out in a crew bus, there’d be 4 of us in the back holding onto our bags, having to go to each bag drop. Only after half an hour of being driven around to every shed and shop would you be dropped off to start on your day. So it was never a great intro at RM for me. Due to the location of our office we couldn’t have bikes.

I left RM and years later when I returned park and loop was here. I’m no fan, I preferred single/rural duties but as working methods go give me working with 1 other person out of a van than a crew bus revving it’s engine with 3 disgruntled posties in the back while you try and remember the code for the padlock on the shed door to drop off your bag.

Again thanks for the well wishes everyone, these first few days have been bliss. Still waking up at stupid o clock though!

And yet I wish it would come back every day! P&L is like being forced to wear a leash that keeps getting yanked every twenty minutes and it goes on all day. I'd sooner be stuck in the back of an old LDV whilst the driver insists on dropping the bags in my time because once my feet hit the pavement I didn't stop and I was finished before 1PM

Just thought I’d give a little update which might help anyone else thinking of moving on.

Coming up to 2 weeks since I left:

-I only used to get tiny little aches and niggles but they’ve completely disappeared now.
-My body clock still gets me up at 6am ish, stops me being lazy I guess.
-My weight has stayed the same (lucky me!).
-Untaken annual leave that I’d accumulated was paid out in my final payslip and was correct to the minute.
-Both Sunday mornings since I’ve left, I’ve still received those ‘mandatory course’ emails - yes I have them marked as spam.

Imagine a world where you don't get any aches and pains! A wise man once told me years ago that you need a good bed and a good pair of shoes because if you're not in one, then you're on the other. I've just bought myself another mattress and the same pair of trainers I always wear. As for waking up early that's a habit that will probably take a while to change. On my days off I try to have a lie-in like on a Sunday but unfortunately I'm usually wide awake by 6am!

I left after 46 years a month back and I'm emigrating in a couple of weeks . I actually loved the job always been a reserve and never bothered me getting sent to another office . I was on deliveries and always used bike and till I left HCT.
I was used to doing 30000 steps a day but since I left I found I'm more tired walking 20000 at a much quicker pace . I don't mind still getting up at half 5 as it's still my favourite time of the day but it's nice to have early walk and go home and relax.
As for my ex colleagues some will be in for a surprise if the changes come in as they have been on the same walks for 20 years ans delivery 2.0 has them worried. So, two ex wives who I met on my rounds a perma tan and still fit I'd settle for that .

Well I thought I’d check in here as I’ve just passed 6 months since I left RM.

-A bit (5kg) of weight gained, I stay active but it is difficult matching the amount of steps I used to do. Overall health is fantastic, zero aches and pains.
-I still wake up at 6 ish, fortunately I can sleep in a bit afterwards.
-I meet up with a few posties still so I get to hear what’s going on. I feel for a lot of you and hope things improve. Also I average 2 posts a week on here since I left which I don’t think is too sad?!
-Sold my shares that I’d been buying through my pay. I didn’t like how things were going with the takeover, so I sold then reinvested elsewhere. It was tough losing 40% in tax but that now covers next year’s tax bill.
-Going self employed is one of the best things I’ve ever done. I’m genuinely living the dream doing something I love as my job.
