Those who've been asked for a substantial amount to be repaid should ask for an itemised breakdown showing hours, dates, etc. and get the union involved.
This sort of calculation can't be left to office workers to announce without some form of evidence or scrutiny.
EXACTLY THIS. Not a chance in a million years they will be able to pull up signing in sheets, O/T records, sickness records etc from a few years back. If they rely on 'electronic data' just ask for all your PDA records so you can match them up. Either they'll have them and there's not a cat in hells chance they match up with when you were supposedly working or on leave, or they won't have them. Either way your rep can then tell them to do one!

Do you have a rest week system? Sounds like the wrong amount of hours has been booked/taken
Yes we have the 5 weeks on and a week off.
We had something similar a while back after a revision, people moved from a rest day to rest week but management never changed their hours on the system.

They ended up owning hours as a weeks annual leave on rest week is more hours than a week if you're on a rest day duty. It was picked up fairly quickly so they didn't owe too much.

Sounds like their mistake and they should take the hit on this one.

100%

I would insist/demand that they provide evidence in detail - not just 'we screwed up sorry' - excuse

This is not just happening in our office,it seems other offices are now trying to reclaim annual leave and it could well be either nationwide or just the Midlands.

Last year the company were threatening employees to use up any additional leave that had been carried over to use it or lose it. But this is a different ball game entirely if staff have exceeded their annual leave since 2015 due to no fault of their own.

Obviously the Union are the first port of call but this could potentially need intervention by a decent employment lawyer.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Some or all of those documents have printed on them words to the effect of 'retained for two years'. It's ambiguous as to whether the document itself or the information contained on it is retained for just those two years. Certainly the original sheets will be long since destroyed.

Just so the figures reading from the shadows know, I can tell you every single day I've worked. I can bring in every payslip from the week I joined to the week they stopped printing them to save the planet by instead running a server 24/7 hosting PDFs. Please try this on so I can be vindicated for my obsessive foresight. :wave

Well done Mr Rush :Very Happy If only the majority of the workforce did the same thing. It's utterly scandalous that RM takes advantage of most delivery employees, by employing so called 'managers' to creatively manage that sort of thinking out of the majority of them. :thumbdown
RM is rotten to the core
Most probably destroy their pay slips once they've got their P60 for the year just gone

So they are going back many years to claim the leave back. Ask for it in writing with calculations that can be understood. Ask for all copies of your contract. Ask for all overtime sheets for the last let's say 10 years. Study overtime sheets. You now remember loads of dates where you worked extra but were never paid. Submit a claim for unpaid overtime, you might need many pages. They claim it cannot be checked because overtime was agreed with a manager who has now left and the claim is out of time. Oh dear, what a conundrum.
