Absolutely. It's obvious to me that they are trying to price letters out of existence. They haven't raised the price of sending parcels by the same proportion and yet the revenue that the company receive from parcels is only marginally more than letters if I can recall.

Royal mail shot themselves in the foot many many years ago with more senior having cushy rounds and finishing early every day .ghost overtime and lots more..no wonder it is now a two tier workforce because it always has been all the millions and millions they have through away.managers who aren't trained to wipe their arses just bully intimadate and look after the old school and the cwu hehe.the culture has killed the company and I guarantee no other job in the UK has or is run like this

I swear mail's going up, so RM probably want this to stop - all they care about is parcels, that's where the margins are.

2-3 years ago we used to have quiet Tuesdays and Saturdays where you'd go to 1 in every 4 or 5 houses. Nowadays getting even the odd day like this has been rare.

I don't even understand how people are getting so much post in today's day and age. I get 2 or 3 letters a month, whereas people I am delivering to are getting 3 letters a day, everyday.

I am wondering if people working from home means that instead of mail going to the office they once worked in....it's going to their homes, which has made volumes go up on residential property deliveries.

Some of that might be down to the DTS system which essentially only releases a 2C item if a DP has a 1C item going to it. If it reaches 5 days then the item gets released anyway

Pesumably the only 1C item the machine would be aware of would be a 1C letter that passed through it, in the meantime the address may have had numerous parcels and magazines etc type items, up until recently we were getting shafted every Friday with excessive amounts of sequenced letters, you could tell you'd already delivered to a lot of the addresses as the d2ds were gone, I'm guessing that was down to this system.

Yep, sounds like a load of mail hit the 5 day limit and was automatically released. The last couple of Thursdays the DTS has been turned off nationally, so for any DTS batches everything gets released. Some walks ended up getting 3 maybe 4 boxes of sequenced

If you consider being a shareholder is such a cushy, money for nothing option how come you're not one?

He is right. The company operates to make profit. That is the primary goal. It is not a service industry any more. Everything is getting more expensive. Your food, rent, mortgages, council tax. Why people expect Royal Mail to deliver the same service for the same stamp price is beyond me. Costs are going up for every company that exists to be profitable.

What other industries are putting up prices 4 times in 2 years, seemingly way in excess of inflation, whilst losing millions of customers?

It seems pretty obvious RM are trying to kill off non business mail, particularly 1st class, as I can't see many people sending birthday or Christmas cards at £1.35 each, particularly when there seems no guarantee it will arrive on time.

If RM ever ceased to exist, £5 is probably about what people would have to pay to send a letter with a courier.

I don't get the people saying "well costs have increased, of course the price has gone up" because how much have costs increased since October? If your weekly shop increased that regularly, by that high a percentage, you'd probably feel a bit ripped off

Parcels are going up at the same rate. Are they trying to price those out of existence? The smallest special delivery is increasing over a quid. On the rare occasion I would need to send a letter, a 10p increase isn’t going to stop me, but paying an extra pound to send a parcel might make me look elsewhere.

Noticed a lot more 'unofficial' re-directions coming through with a £5 charge levied!

When I finally delivered one that had been paid, recipient had a right old moan. I asked if he got on a train to London then changed his mind
when he got to London that he wanted go to Manchester instead would he expect to go to Manchester for free?
