That's what the DTS system is in theory meant to sort out. The basic idea with the system, when the mech gets run the system creates a list of all DPs that have got an item due for delivery. When a batch gets run on a CSS, for any 2C mail in that batch it checks it against the list of DPs due a 1C item. If that DP isn't on the list then that 2C item gets "deferred" to the next night. Any item can only be "deferred" for a maximum of 5 days, on the fifth day it gets automatically released.

If the DTS system fails or gets switch off nationally then when a batch is run any deferred items get automatically released and nothing gets "deferred". A week ago on the Thursday the DTS system failed nationally and Thursday just gone the DTS system got switched off nationally (the CSS machines grabbed the lists but the lists were empty). Apparently it was done to help deliveries but I can't see how, as it just dumps onto some walks 3 to 4 trays of sequenced. If they'd left the DTS turned on Thursday just gone then you'd had that same mail spread out (unless some was a bulk posting that hits the 5 day limit).

There are a few MCs that don't currently do DTS on all batches, that'll be down to machine capacity as DTS batches take a little longer to run. No DTS batch can be run before midnight as the CSS machines have to wait for the system to process the data and send them the lists of DPs that have got a 1C item.

In the long term as more packets get sorted by machine, it'll get expanded to also cover packets as well.

….. this company and its vindictive management will do anything it can to do the complete opposite. Help deliveries…… Jesus wept they’d have us lined up and pistol whipped every morning if they thought they could get away with it. The main reason this company is in so much trouble is because Senior & Middle Management put all their efforts into grinding down the staff than actually growing and running the business.

The last couple of weeks, the other week the DTS system failed on the Thursday so everything got released. Thursday just gone it got switched off nationally so everything got released. They said that Thursday just gone it was turned off to help deliveries but it just resulted in many walks getting 2 full boxes, some got 3 and the odd walk got 4 boxes.

My experience last summer being hit with consecutive Network Rail bulk postings was that a trickle came down through the week and then the dam broke on Friday night and hammered us on the Saturday. Seems if it was just Mailsort and sat in the frame across several days to be delivered at our discretion it would at least have assisted in warm-calling D2D.

The arrival of post now seems to follow a similar pattern each week in my DO, virtually nothing on Monday & Tuesday, a massive amount on Wednesday, Thursday, then all the properties who've had no post all week suddenly get masses of post on Friday or Saturday, as if it's been held back to the end of the week. I can imagine those customers think I only delivered their mail once a week as they had so much in one delivery.

That sounds/looks like they are planning on changing the frame setup to a vertical rather than horizontal prep for delivery to make sure D2Ds are delivered properly. The 90% of walks with double slotted frames are well and truly f****d if so.
