It's not just people with children that want/need exemptions. What about carers? I care for a disabled person. If RM think they're getting away with disability discrimination, then they're in for a shock.

I feel it needs to be reiterated that a lot of people took the job as they already had young children and a "family friendly" job came up. Several of my colleagues (both the child free, and those with grown up children) have expressed a "it's not fair on us, shouldn't have had kids if you couldn't handle it" attitude that is, quite frankly, ridiculous.
Oh, and the venn diagram for "older posties who think it's unfair that people with kids get the opportunity to ask to work different hours" and "older posties who are kicking off about not getting to the football on a Saturday" is practically a circle

I've been a postman for 37 years. I understand nobody wants later finishes, but the problem is where are you going to get a full time job where you are finished by 2pm everyday?

Even if they did have to work 6 days instead of 5 in order to work an hour less everyday ( which I dont think many would take up ) with park and loop that just causes issues for whoever they are partnered with and leaving the work needing covered everyday

This is one of the biggest issues regarding park and loop if one partner doesn't mind working till 5pm and the other one doesn't. The solution is that they would drop them off and let the other guy stay out and complete but what if they are dropping them off on a round that is on the other side of town? Its just impracticable and means that they would need to finish even earlier unless the van share partner doesn't mind dropping them off at home and then going back through traffic to complete even later.

That doesn’t make any sense. People are already partnered up on van share rounds. A full re-pick isn’t being done to cater for people on family friendly hours.

Would Royal Mail rather keep staff on older/more expensive contracts? - the answer is surely no.

It's been said before - It wouldn't be a surprise if Royal Mail are doing all of this to make people leave. With the turnover of staff being high at Royal Mail how long will it be before the people on the better/older contracts are outnumbered by those of the crapper/newer contracts.

In our place the jobs are now too big, but they are employing newbies on 40 hour contracts - longer days....so have a better chance of completing these duties.

Royal Mail want cheap labour....and as time goes by they are going to reap the rewards as the people on better contracts move on.

-Made the jobs bigger to annoy us all.
-Taken away a lot of sick pay to annoy us all.
-Later starts to annoy us all - especially those that pick up their kids.

My duty getting insanely big and me being harassed by management because of it (it's my fault the round isn't getting completed, not them making the duty 70 mins bigger) has put me on the verge of leaving.

Probably not many full time jobs finish by 2pm. But I'm part time and this job was advertised as family friendly. The new times mean I would have to pay half my wages for a stranger to take/pick my kids up. Worse, I can't take my son to see our local non league club, who are doing rather well for once, on Saturdays. Well done union, don't know why I'm still paying their subs when they have done literally nothing for me.

An intelligent person would do their up most to avoid this. a RM manager however...was quite happy to have me left abandoned out on the duty, or twiddling my thumbs for half an hour back at the office so a colleague could make the afternoon school run.
Or either bust my gut (or hang about twiddling my thumbs) while another colleague would be gone for up to an hour to do the morning school run.


The biggest problem with all of these ideas had by the high ups is they seem to think their managers are capable of managing.
